Senior Project Manager

Location: Ipswich Project Office & Hybrid Working (3 days in office, 2 days from home)

As Senior Project Manager for galleries within the Civil Works Alliance, you will lead the delivery of the Main Civil Works section, overseeing preconstruction and delivery activities. These activities include planning, coordination, and administrative processes essential to preparing the project for successful construction execution.

You will manage the construction of galleries that interface with key nuclear plant buildings (NI, CI-Bop, HS) and coordinate backfill activities. Initial focus will be on:

  • HCT and HPL galleries (critical for starting the HCA building) on the east side of the plant
  • HG galleries (required to begin the HR building and enable HLC's position 2)

Subsequent galleries will follow. Construction methods may include pre-cast or on-site builds depending on chosen approaches.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams to develop safe, sustainable, and buildable gallery designs.
  • Lead cost estimation, budgeting, and manage project finances throughout delivery.
  • Manage subcontractor selection, tendering, and contract negotiations for pre-cast or prefab works.
  • Oversee safe and timely delivery of activities, ensuring quality, budget, and schedule targets are met.
  • Coordinate quality assurance efforts and manage the quality inspection team.
  • Identify and resolve risks and issues, escalating when necessary.
  • Maintain construction schedules and ensure all project deliverables are met.
  • Manage interfaces with other project teams to ensure smooth integration across the MCW programme.
  • Take ownership of the galleries package from planning through to commissioning.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential Knowledge & Skills

  • Proven experience leading project teams on large-scale civil engineering projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.

Desirable Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience in nuclear or other heavily regulated environments.
  • Experience managing parts of large civil engineering projects.
  • Familiarity with NEC4 SC and ECC contracts.
  • Experience working within Joint Ventures or Alliances.
  • UK major construction experience and relevant training.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Membership of APM, PMI, or similar project management bodies.
  • CSCS PQP Card and/or CSCS Black Managers Card.

Desirable Qualifications

  • SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safety certification.
