We're now seeking a Senior Digital Engineer (GIS) to help define, develop, and embed geospatial solutions across our projects. You will play a central role in delivering project-wide geospatial strategies that enable smarter design, safer construction, and more effective stakeholder engagement.

This role sits within our Power Sector portfolio, supporting the Great Grid Partnership (GGP) for National Grid, a critical national infrastructure programme delivering the UK's Great Grid Upgrade.

 

Roles & responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of geospatial strategies across major infrastructure projects.
  • Champion geospatial standards, protocols, and governance, ensuring alignment across internal teams, clients, and supply chain partners.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and client teams to understand requirements and deliver tailored, high-quality geospatial solutions.
  • Act as the link between digital engineering, design, and construction disciplines, embedding best practice and improving workflows.
  • Design, configure, and deploy interactive ArcGIS Online applications to support decision-making across the project lifecycle.
  • Manage and maintain geospatial data and project databases, ensuring accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and security.
  • Integrate and standardise geospatial datasets from multiple sources (CAD, survey, BIM, asset data) into usable, project-ready formats.
  • Enable effective field data capture and mobile workflows, supporting real-time data integration into project platforms.
  • Deliver high-quality geospatial outputs, including maps, dashboards, and visualisations, to support planning, delivery, and reporting.
  • Drive innovation by challenging traditional approaches and introducing smarter, data-driven ways of working.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, contributing to capability development and a collaborative team culture.
  • Support programme-wide geospatial initiatives in collaboration with the Lead Digital Engineer (GIS).

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Proven experience with Esri ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, including configuration of web applications (Experience Builder, Dashboards, 3D Scenes, Survey123, Field Maps).
  • Proficient in developing and automating workflows using FME Form.
  • Strong technical capability in data extraction, transformation, and integration from diverse engineering, survey, and asset data sources.
  • In-depth understanding of spatial data management, standards, and best practices, with experience applying them in construction or infrastructure environments.
  • Ability to design and deliver clear, user-friendly geospatial solutions that make complex data accessible and actionable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to understand user needs, manage expectations, and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and influence positive outcomes.
  • Confidence to present ideas, challenge assumptions constructively, and support informed decision-making.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with a passion for innovation, problem-solving, continuous improvement, and developing others.

Desirable:

  • Relevant degree and/or professional certifications (e.g. Esri, FME) considered advantageous.
  • Experience deploying solutions via FME Flow for enterprise-scale automation.
  • Skilled in at least one programming language for developing geospatial applications (e.g., Python, JavaScript, SQL, R/Shiny), including use of Esri APIs where relevant
  • Experience driving digital transformation initiatives, including integrating Microsoft business applications with geospatial services.
