The opportunity:

Laing O'Rourke is a key construction partner on the Broacastle Substation project, a major infrastructure upgrade for National Grid

We are currently seeking an Assistant / Quantity Surveyor to join the team in Bridgend.

What will the role look like?

  • Manage and take commercial responsibility for specific work packages or project areas.
  • Assist with the preparation of subcontract enquiries, evaluation of quotations, and subcontract procurement.
  • Prepare, manage and certify subcontractor interim and final payments.
  • Measure, value and agree works, maintaining accurate commercial records throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support the preparation of applications for payment, internal valuations, cash flow forecasts and final accounts.
  • Monitor project costs, income and expenditure, producing accurate monthly cost and value reports, turnover forecasts and contract reviews.
  • Identify, assess and manage changes, ensuring the change control process is administered effectively.
  • Assist with the preparation of claims and management of contractual matters, providing commercial support to project teams.
  • Attend and contribute to commercial, financial and progress meetings with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide clear and professional communication, ensuring project risks, opportunities and issues are identified and reported promptly.
  • Support the development of junior commercial team members where applicable and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying.
  • Experience in power or major infrastructure projects.
  • RICS membership (desirable but not essential)
  • Willingness to be involved in other activities to achieve company objectives.
  • A drive to learn and grow to the next grade.
