Are you passionate about structural engineering, innovation, and finding smarter ways to deliver major infrastructure projects?
This unique role combines structural engineering expertise, advanced manufacturing, and innovation to help transform nuclear construction. You'll be at the forefront of developing technically compliant, efficient, and buildable design and detailing solutions that support Advanced Manufacturing strategies, with a particular focus on preassembled reinforcement cages.
Working within our Technology & Innovation team, you'll play a key role in ensuring manufacturing strategies are developed alongside real design requirements, helping to shape the future delivery of major nuclear projects such as Sizewell C. This is an exciting opportunity to influence how projects are designed, manufactured, and constructed for years to come.
We're looking for someone who brings fresh ideas, a passion for innovation, and strong structural engineering knowledge. You'll have the opportunity to challenge conventional thinking, develop new product solutions, and drive improvements that make a real difference across the nuclear sector.
What You'll Be Doing
- Developing innovative permanent works design solutions to support Advanced Manufacturing, particularly preassembled reinforcement cages.
- Leading technology and innovation initiatives that align design requirements with Advanced Manufacturing strategies.
- Collaborating with Design Automation and Configuration teams to improve design efficiency, consistency, and repeatability.
- Identifying and developing new product opportunities for the nuclear sector, including advanced precast solutions, while ensuring compliance and manufacturability.
- Providing early-stage design input to embed Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) into future nuclear projects.
- Delivering structural engineering support across Technology & Innovation activities.
- Providing design and detailing input to optimise permanent works for SZC ARMF and implement temporary works optimisation strategies.
What We're Looking For
You'll be a strong civil or structural engineer with a passion for innovation and problem-solving. Someone who enjoys challenging the status quo, exploring new approaches, and turning ideas into practical solutions.
You'll bring:
- Strong civil and structural engineering design capability, including knowledge of relevant nuclear design codes and standards.
- A solid grounding in structural behaviour and first-principles engineering.
- A drive to innovate around HPC challenges and develop new approaches for SZC and future projects.
- An innovative mindset, lateral thinking, and the ability to solve complex problems.
- Working knowledge of, or a strong interest in, manufacturing methods, prefabrication, and product-based engineering approaches.
- The ability to build effective relationships with clients, designers, suppliers, internal business units, and Technology & Innovation colleagues to drive progress and influence change.
- Attention to detail and pride in delivering high-quality work.
- A collaborative approach, supporting colleagues and contributing to the success of the wider team.
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Several years' experience within HPC, SZC, or similar nuclear design organisations, with a strong understanding of nuclear design processes and approvals.
- A strong desire for innovation and problem-solving.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience within development, innovation, or R&D environments, particularly progressing concepts from research through to practical application.
- Temporary Works design experience within nuclear projects.
