Digital Workplace Engineer

Are you interested in workplace technology and keen to develop your technical skills in a supportive engineering environment?

We are looking for a curious and practical Digital Workplace Analyst to help improve the technology services and platforms our people use every day. This is a development opportunity for someone with experience in an IT environment who would like to build deeper expertise and progress towards a digital workplace engineering role.

Laing O'Rourke's IT function has renewed its strategy to support the company's ambition to transform the construction industry, making it more sustainable, more productive, and fit for the future.

Technology has a critical role to play in achieving this ambition. Our focus is on applying digital capability in ways that genuinely matter, shaping how complex projects are delivered, how decisions are made, and how innovation improves outcomes for people, communities, and the environment.

Our mission is clear: to create a modern and resilient technology environment where trusted data informs every decision, AI enhances every process, and digital capability enables the organisation to operate with greater scale and productivity.

To deliver this, we are building a different kind of IT function, one that is trusted by the business, forward looking in its thinking, and deeply connected to operational outcomes. We are looking for individuals who are curious, thoughtful, and motivated by contributing to work that has real industry impact.

    • Contribute to incident, problem, change and knowledge management activities.
    • Produce clear technical procedures, investigation records and support guidance.
    • Collaborate with IT teams, suppliers and colleagues to understand requirements and communicate findings.
    • Develop your technical capability through practical work, learning and knowledge sharing.

Essential requirements

    • Experience in an IT support, operations, service management, endpoint or digital workplace environment.
    • A relevant IT qualification or equivalent practical experience.
    • Working knowledge of endpoint devices, operating systems, collaboration tools or productivity technology within a corporate environment.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 services and endpoint management concepts.
    • A methodical approach to investigating technical issues and documenting findings.
    • Ability to work with operational data, recognise trends and present clear analysis.
    • Understanding of incident, problem, change and knowledge management principles.
    • Awareness of security, compliance and risk considerations when supporting technology services.
    • Ability to produce clear technical procedures, test evidence and support documentation.
    • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues, technical teams and suppliers.
    • A genuine interest in workplace technology, problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Desirable requirements

    • Experience with Microsoft Intune, Configuration Manager, Windows Autopilot or Windows servicing.
    • Exposure to PowerShell, workflow automation or other scripting tools.
