Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Welder to join our manufacturing team producing modular buildings. You will work as part of a BS EN 1090 Execution Class 3 (EXC. 3) qualified team, delivering high-quality welded fabrications that meet structural and compliance standards. The role involves MIG/MAG welding of mild steel structural components, as well as working from detailed drawings and following strict quality procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality MIG/MAG welding to BS EN ISO 9606 standards, under an EXC. 3 welding regime.
  • Fabricate steel structures and components for modular buildings, including base frames, support structures, and connection details.
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, welding symbols, and WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications).
  • Complete welds to dimensional and quality requirements, using jigs or freehand where applicable.
  • Work safely and collaboratively within a small welding team, ensuring compliance with BS EN 1090 requirements.
  • Carry out self-inspections and support visual inspection and testing processes (VT, NDT if applicable).
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and ongoing skills development.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment in accordance with factory and welding shop rules.
  • Report defects, material shortages, or issues affecting delivery to the Supervisor promptly.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Fabrication and Welding (or equivalent).
  • Valid BS EN ISO 9606-1 qualification for MIG/MAG welding (multi-positional preferred).
  • Experience working to BS EN 1090 standards (preferably EXC. 2 or EXC. 3).
  • Proven experience welding structural steel components.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with modular/offsite construction methods.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes or forklifts (training can be provided).
  • Understanding of welding QA documentation (WPS, WPQR, weld maps).
  • Basic mechanical assembly or fitting skills.

Additional Information

This role requires physical fitness, manual dexterity, and the ability to wear all necessary PPE including RPE where required. Occasional overtime or shift work may be necessary depending on workload.
