Are you proficient in structural analysis and design software, with experience in CAD and BIM environments?

We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join our Temporary Works Design team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering safe, practical, and cost-effective temporary works solutions across a diverse range of construction projects, while providing technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce and check temporary works designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Develop innovative and buildable engineering solutions, incorporating value engineering and construction methodology considerations.
  • Design using Eurocodes across a range of structural materials, including steel, reinforced concrete, and timber.
  • Provide technical support for live projects, tenders, and construction teams.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation, standards, and company quality and safety procedures, including CDM, LOLER, PUWER, and HSWA requirements.
  • Identify, assess, and communicate design risks, residual risks, performance constraints, and safety-critical elements.
  • Coordinate with permanent works designers and project stakeholders to ensure construction methods do not compromise permanent works assumptions.
  • Undertake design reviews, independent checks, and oversee the work of junior engineers.
  • Support site activities through inspections, technical advice, and temporary works implementation reviews where required.
  • Contribute to the development and mentoring of junior engineers and support continuous improvement initiatives within the design team.

About You

  • Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Strong temporary works design experience within the construction or infrastructure sector.
  • Proven capability in structural design using steel, reinforced concrete, and timber to Eurocodes.
  • Experience with proprietary falsework, formwork, and shoring systems.
  • Good understanding of construction methodology, buildability, and temporary works coordination.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical design principles, including excavation support and working platforms, is advantageous.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Chartered status (or working towards chartership) is desirable.

What You'll Bring

You will combine strong technical expertise with practical construction knowledge, enabling you to deliver safe, efficient, and innovative temporary works solutions while supporting the development of engineers across the team.
