The Opportunity:

Laing O'Rourke is working in partnership with Thames Water on a project at Beckton Sewage Treatment Works, helping to ensure London's wastewater infrastructure can meet the demands of a growing population.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team, taking ownership of key commercial activities and helping drive successful project delivery.

What will the Senior Quantity Surveyor role look like?

• Taking commercial responsibility for a project or designated section of works.
• Managing all aspects of quantity surveying, including measurement, valuations and agreement of works.
• Preparing and managing interim applications for payment and agreeing payment certifications.
• Drafting, negotiating, managing and settling subcontract agreements.
• Monitoring and reporting monthly costs, forecasts and commercial performance.
• Preparing, negotiating and agreeing claims, variations and final accounts.
• Identifying and managing change, ensuring appropriate change control processes are followed.
• Advising project teams on contractual obligations, commercial risks and opportunities.
• Preparing contract reviews, Business Plan Review (BPR) information, management accounts and project business plan inputs.
• Supporting the establishment and management of project budgets from contract award.
• Ensuring contract documentation is properly executed before work commences.
• Building effective working relationships with clients, subcontractors, consultants and project stakeholders.
• Supporting and mentoring trainee, assistant and junior quantity surveying colleagues.
• Keeping management informed of emerging commercial issues and risks that could affect project delivery or business performance.

What skills and experience are we looking for?

• Experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor role within the infrastructure sector.
• A degree or higher qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
• An understanding of commercial risk and opportunity management, with a willingness to develop this knowledge further in relation to both internal processes and client requirements.
• Strong commercial awareness, negotiation skills and the ability to manage contractual and financial risk.
• A proactive approach to learning, professional development and progression to the next career level.
