Senior Design Manager (Mechanical) – Data Centres – Manchester

Are you an experienced Senior Design Manager from a mechanical background, ready to lead the design on a cutting-edge data centre project? We are recruiting for a key role based in Manchester, offering the opportunity to play a pivotal part in the successful delivery of one of the most complex and high-profile projects in our portfolio.

  • Be at the forefront of a technically advanced data centre project, responsible for overseeing the mechanical design delivery.

  • Lead multi-disciplinary design teams through early engagement, detailed design, and successful handover.

  • Drive innovation and sustainability throughout the project lifecycle, utilising Laing O'Rourke's market-leading digital and offsite manufacturing capabilities.

Who we're looking for:

We're keen to hear from Senior Design Managers with:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or relevant discipline) and ideally Chartered status.

  • Proven experience on major, high-complexity projects such as data centres, pharmaceutical/life sciences facilities, healthcare estates, advanced manufacturing, or critical national infrastructure.

  • Strong collaboration and leadership skills, with confidence managing client teams, designers, and delivery partners.

  • Robust understanding of design governance, risk management, and design change processes.

Transferable Sectors:

We welcome applications from candidates with experience in sectors where high-performance mechanical systems are key. Relevant sectors include Data Centres, Healthcare, Life Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing, Aviation, Defence, and High-Tech Industrial environments.
