Section Engineer – Mechanical/Metalwork

Location: London/Suffolk

Join the exciting journey of one of the UK's largest nuclear projects at Sizewell C!

The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Section Engineer to support the successful delivery of the Mechanical Metalworks scope on the Sizewell C Project.

CWA, appointed by the Sizewell C client, brings together three leading delivery contractors — Laing O'Rourke, Bouygues, and Balfour Beatty — to deliver the civils scope including Enabling Earthworks, Main Civil Works, and Marine and Tunnelling.

We are looking for a Section Engineer to join the Civil Works Alliance (CWA) and support the on-site assembly of stainless-steel modular panels and pool builds for the Sizewell C Project. In this role, you'll work closely with the Tier 2 contractor delivering modular construction within the K10 platform at the pool bunkers, followed by works in the Nuclear Island at Sizewell C. You'll be part of the team driving fabrication, welding, and assembly activities, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity targets are achieved across all stages of manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate weekly supplier meetings and manage upcoming project activities.
  • Prepare technical documentation and oversee procurement of materials and equipment.
  • Support manufacturing through production meetings, risk reviews, and pre-production planning.
  • Provide coverage during major project events such as heavy lifts.
  • Lead internal meetings and drive engineering and schedule alignment.
  • Promote Nuclear Safety Culture and ensure Tier-2 contractor compliance.
  • Uphold quality standards through ITP adherence, SONIMS management, and surveillance coordination.
  • Ensure safe execution of work with approved RAMS and Lifting Plans.
  • Collaborate with planning teams and participate in daily/weekly progress reviews (PLOD/PLOW).
  • Deliver cost-effective project scopes on time and within budget.
  • Conduct regular audits on safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
  • Enforce CWA safety rules and maintain a safe working environment.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

Essential

  • Experience in Metal Work, (Welding and prefabrication) in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience in heavy civils and infrastructure
  • Multi-disciplined technical knowledge relevant including an understanding of legislative requirements.
  • Well organised
  • Working knowledge of industry Control of Work processes and tools
  • Capable of interpreting detailed engineering drawings – RAMS – ITP's
  • Strong Mechanical Engineering background
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of managing 3rd party multi-discipline teams on behalf of Client

Qualifications

  • ONC/HNC in Engineering
  • Petro Chemical / Nuclear or oil and gas construction related experience
