Join us on one of the UK's most important energy infrastructure programmes

Laing O'Rourke is delivering major elements of The Great Grid Upgrade, National Grid's nationwide investment to modernise and reinforce the UK's electricity network. At Kiln Lane, we are constructing critical new infrastructure that will help the UK meet future energy demand, support net-zero ambitions, and strengthen resilience for generations to come.

As a Project Quality Engineer, you will play a key role in assuring the integrity of this essential infrastructure, embedding best‑in‑class quality practices, and helping the project achieve Right First Time delivery.

About the Role

Working as part of the Kiln Lane project quality team, you will manage quality assurance and compliance activities for a defined area or package of the works. You will help shape the project's quality culture, working closely with engineers, supervisors, supply chain partners and wider project functions to ensure the works are delivered safely, compliantly and to the highest standards.

This is a site‑based role requiring strong technical expertise, proactive engagement, and a passion for driving continuous improvement.

What You'll Be Doing

Assurance & Compliance

  • Implement the Laing O'Rourke ISO 9001 / BS 99001 certified QMS and Project Quality Plan within your assigned area.
  • Review and support development of Quality Plans, ITPs, Method Statements, Work Procedures and supplier documentation.
  • Carry out daily/weekly quality surveillance and inspections; record observations and escalate risks where required.

Digital Quality Delivery

  • Operate Field View and support digital assurance processes including geometry checks and equipment calibration.
  • Maintain the golden thread of information through progressive assurance on Asite.
  • Use dashboards (e.g., Power BI) to analyse performance, identify trends and make improvement recommendations.

Handover & Close‑Out

  • Prepare sectional handover dossiers aligned with project milestones and client requirements.
  • Support the progressive population of O&M information.

Quality Issue Management

  • Lead closure of NCRs, defects and snags within your area.
  • Assess corrective and preventative actions to ensure long‑term resolution.

Collaboration & Culture

  • Represent quality at coordination meetings, presenting KPIs and highlighting emerging issues.
  • Coach and mentor supervisors, engineers and supply chain partners to reinforce Right First Time behaviours.
  • Work with STBGs and supply chain to align offsite and onsite quality assurance.

What We're Looking For

Experience & Skills

  • 3–5 years' experience in quality, assurance, compliance or improvement roles.
  • Strong experience in civils and fit out.
  • Experience within regulated or high‑assurance environments (Energy, Rail, Nuclear, Healthcare) is beneficial.
  • Strong communication skills with confidence engaging partners at all levels.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001:2015, BS 99001 and associated quality standards.
  • Competent using digital tools and interpreting data.
  • Familiarity with Field View, Asite, Trimble or similar digital construction platforms.

Qualifications (desirable)

  • ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor
  • PCQI (or working towards) or equivalent professional membership
