Project Leader – Energy & Infrastructure
The Opportunity
At Laing O'Rourke, we're delivering some of the UK's most important infrastructure projects and helping to shape the future of the country's energy network.
Following our appointment to National Grid's Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework, we are continuing to grow our Energy & Infrastructure capability and are looking for an experienced Project Leader to join our team.
This is an opportunity to take end-to-end leadership of a major infrastructure project, from early engagement and design development through construction and commissioning to successful handover.
You'll bring together multidisciplinary teams, clients, partners and our integrated supply chain to create a collaborative, high-performing environment where safety, quality and successful delivery come first.
What will the role look like?
As Project Leader, you'll take overall accountability for the planning, management and successful delivery of the project.
You'll
- Lead the project from early engagement through design, construction, commissioning and handover.
- Build, lead and motivate a high-performing multidisciplinary project team.
- Develop strong relationships with clients, partners, supply chain organisations and key stakeholders.
- Oversee project performance against programme, cost, quality and delivery objectives.
- Lead the development and implementation of the project delivery strategy.
- Work closely with design teams to challenge and optimise solutions, including opportunities for DfMA.
- Ensure construction programmes and forecasts are effectively managed and communicated.
- Champion Laing O'Rourke's approach to health, safety and environmental performance.
- Create a positive quality culture and ensure project quality plans and processes are effectively implemented.
- Ensure the project is successfully handed over defect-free and to the satisfaction of our client and stakeholders.
- Deliver in line with ASTI principles and its collaborative approach.
What are we looking for?
We're looking for an experienced project leader who has successfully delivered complex, large-scale infrastructure or civil engineering projects.
The successful candidate will bring:
- A strong track record of leading multidisciplinary teams on major infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing projects from pre-construction and design development through delivery and handover.
- Excellent client and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of programme, design and construction management.
- Experience developing delivery strategies across supply chain, plant, equipment, self-delivery and subcontracted works.
- The ability to communicate and influence effectively at all levels, from site teams through to senior leadership and clients.
- A recognised industry qualification within Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Previous experience within energy, utilities, power or other complex infrastructure environments would be advantageous.
- Framework or Alliance delivery experience would also be beneficial.
Most importantly, you will be a collaborative and engaging leader who can bring people together, challenge constructively and inspire teams to deliver exceptional results.
