Laing O'Rourke and the Civil Works Alliance (CWA) are recruiting a Methods Engineer to underpin the delivery of one of the UK's most significant and complex infrastructure programmes – Sizewell C.
This role offers the opportunity to work at the heart of method‑led construction on a nationally significant project, where early engineering input directly shapes safe, efficient and buildable outcomes. The Methods Engineer will play a critical role in influencing how complex works are planned, sequenced and delivered, working closely with design, temporary works, logistics and delivery teams. As part of a growing technical function, the role provides exposure to complex construction challenges, modern methods of construction and digital tools, while offering genuine scope to develop technical depth, professional capability and long‑term career progression within a collaborative and forward‑thinking environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development of optimised construction methodologies from pre‑construction through to early delivery stages
- Collaborate closely with site teams, designers and the wider methods engineering function to shape safe, efficient build strategies
- Develop construction sequencing aligned to method‑led construction principles
- Integrate temporary works design with permanent works using sound engineering judgement
- Produce concept temporary works schemes and draft design briefs
- Develop logistics strategies and detailed logistics plans to support construction delivery
- Support cost and carbon estimating for methodology options
- Create detailed construction schedules using digital and planning tools
- Identify construction risks and support the development of effective mitigations
- Promote modern methods of construction to improve productivity and performance
- Capture lessons learnt and contribute to knowledge sharing and training within the business
- Support the use of BIM and digital tools across pre‑construction and delivery
What Skills and Experience We Are Looking For
Essential
- Experience on complex or major infrastructure projects at Site Engineer / Section Engineer level (or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies and safe systems of work
- Knowledge of planning, sequencing and resourcing of construction activities
- Understanding of CDM Regulations and health and safety responsibilities
- Experience working with digital models and modern construction tools
- Strong communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills
- A proactive, deadline‑focused approach with confidence to challenge traditional methods
Desirable
- Working towards professional accreditation in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- Ability to manage inputs across multiple projects simultaneously
- A genuine interest in innovation, productivity improvement and sustainability
