Methods Engineer – Pre-Construction

Location: Ipswich (with site visits to Suffolk as required)

The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Methods Engineer to support the successful delivery of the Sizewell C Project.

CWA, appointed by the Sizewell C client, brings together three leading delivery contractors — Laing O'Rourke, Bouygues, and Balfour Beatty — to deliver the civils scope including Enabling Earthworks, Main Civil Works, and Marine and Tunnelling.

We are seeking a Methods Engineer to support the development of optimised construction solutions during preconstruction, bid and early delivery stages. You'll play a key role in shaping construction methodology for the Sizewell C project, collaborating with design and delivery teams to integrate temporary and permanent works, develop logistics strategies, and adopt modern methods of construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pre-construction design and methods development into delivery
  • Develop construction sequencing following Method-led Construction principles
  • Integrate temporary works design with permanent works design
  • Draft design briefs for concept temporary works schemes
  • Develop logistics strategies and create detailed logistics plans
  • Coordinate and collaborate with discipline specialists and supply chain partners
  • Create detailed schedules for construction methodology options
  • Support adoption of modern methods of construction to improve productivity
  • Identify risks associated with works and support development of mitigations
  • Record lessons learned and capture knowledge for future projects
  • Implement BIM and digital tools to enhance pre-construction and delivery
  • Support reinforcement detailing and constructability methodology to maximise prefabrication and productivity

What skills & experience are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Experience on major projects at Site Engineer / Section Engineer level
  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies and reinforcement detailing
  • Understanding of planning, resourcing, and CDM regulations
  • Comfortable working with digital model

Desirable:

  • Progressing toward professional accreditation in Civil Engineering
  • Ability to work across multiple projects and challenge conventional approaches
