Marine Section Engineer – Marine & Tunnelling

Location: Suffolk (with potential relocation/travel as required)

The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) is seeking a Marine Section Engineer to support the Engineering and Technical team in developing construction methods, design inputs, and onshore support for the offshore installation of reinforced concrete permanent works in the North Sea. This is a key role within the Marine and Tunnels portion of the programme, supporting the successful delivery of some of the most complex marine works in the UK.

CWA, appointed by the Sizewell C client, brings together three leading contractors — Laing O'Rourke, Bouygues, and Balfour Beatty — to deliver the civils scope including Enabling Earthworks, Main Civil Works, and Marine and Tunnelling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take accountability for a section of the Marine Works, identifying scope, planning delivery and managing interfaces with linked activities

  • Apply engineering controls to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards

  • Assist with site investigations, method development and constructability reviews

  • Support preparation of work specifications, tender documentation, consents and licensing applications

  • Review supplier deliverables and assist with technical adjudication of bids

  • Produce method statements, risk assessments and quality assurance documentation

  • Monitor and manage risks, identifying opportunities and mitigation measures

  • Support project delivery teams with technical guidance, daily records and progress reporting

  • Utilise digital tools to enhance delivery and maintain accurate survey and engineering records

  • Supervise and support Marine/Site Engineers reporting to you, embedding a focus on safety and quality

  • Maintain a relentless focus on Zero Harm, ensuring health, safety and sustainability requirements are achieved

What skills & experience are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Degree (2:2 or above) in Mechanical, Civil or Structural Engineering

  • Experience planning and constructing major projects, ideally involving civil, structural and offshore works

  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks) and use of 2D/3D/4D modelling tools

  • Effective communicator with strong teamwork, leadership and problem-solving skills

  • Eligibility to work and live in the UK, with a CSCS card (managers/professionals)

  • Technical and engineering management experience

Desirable:

  • Professional accreditation (or working towards)

  • UK project experience, ideally within marine or offshore construction

  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations (2015), DCO and MMO licence applications

  • Experience in marine operations such as dredging, RORO, stockpile management or offshore vessel works

  • SMSTS qualification and/or offshore survival/medical certifications (BOSIET/GWO/OGUK)
