Land Surveyor – Marine & Tunneling
Location: Avonmouth, Bristol
Join the exciting journey of one of the UK's largest nuclear projects at Sizewell C!
The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) is seeking a Land Surveyor to support the delivery of surveying requirements across the Sizewell C project. Working as part of the Survey team, you'll provide accurate survey control, setting out, topographic surveys and as-built deliverables, while mentoring junior colleagues and ensuring a consistent approach to survey activities across site.
CWA, appointed by the Sizewell C client, brings together three leading contractors — Laing O'Rourke, Bouygues, and Balfour Beatty — to deliver the civils scope including Enabling Earthworks, Main Civil Works, and Marine and Tunnelling.
Key Responsibilities

Provide support to the Senior Surveyor/Survey Manager in delivering all survey requirements

Carry out engineering surveying, setting out, topographic surveys and QA checks independently

Supervise survey teams and mentor trainees and graduates within the survey function

Ensure survey operations comply with health, safety and sustainability standards, with daily safety briefings and robust risk assessments in place

Prepare Work Package Plans (WPP), Risk Assessments (RA), and Task Briefing Sheets (TBS)

Collaborate with site teams to provide construction information, digital models, drawings and schedules

Perform QA checks on design deliverables and independent survey checks during construction stages

Produce accurate as-built drawings and manage survey data in line with project requirements

Maintain survey equipment inventory, advising on procurement needs and consumables

Ensure accurate survey records are completed and maintained across the project
What skills & experience are we looking for?
Essential:
-
Relevant degree, diploma or equivalent industry-recognised qualification in surveying or civil engineering
-
Minimum 5 years' experience in the construction industry with knowledge of survey equipment, technologies and methods
-
Strong knowledge of settlement monitoring, geodetic requirements, GNSS networks and modern survey practices

Effective communication and relationship-building skills with site teams and stakeholders

Proficient IT skills, including survey software and applications

Full UK driving licence

Valid CSCS card
Desirable:
-
Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D or similar survey software
-
Membership of a professional body (e.g. CInstCES) or working towards

SMSTS qualification

Broader understanding of design, construction and surveying in a large infrastructure environment
