Health, Safety & Wellbeing Coordinator – Marine & Tunnelling

Location: Ipswich (Hybrid)

The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health, Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator to support the successful delivery of the Sizewell C Project.

CWA, appointed by the Sizewell C client, brings together three leading delivery contractors — Laing O'Rourke, Bouygues, and Balfour Beatty — to deliver the civils scope including Enabling Earthworks, Main Civil Works, and Marine and Tunnelling.

We are seeking a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Coordinator to monitor and provide proactive HSW input across the Marine & Tunnelling scope. From design through to implementation, you'll ensure governance, compliance and legal obligations are met, supporting the wider HSW agenda and helping embed a culture of Zero Harm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake planned project inspections and site tours, preparing reports and recommendations
  • Deliver pre-work site inspections to evaluate and mitigate risks at planning stages
  • Support local management in their liaison with clients and contractors by attending meetings, working groups and forums
  • Prepare written reports following all site visits, inspections, audits and investigations
  • Review and update project documentation to maintain accuracy and compliance
  • Ensure compliance with the Business Management System (BMS) and test the effectiveness of its components to drive continuous improvement
  • Review, track and analyse unplanned events, supporting project teams in their investigations
  • Deliver training and advisory sessions including setting to work, occupational health, plant & vehicle marshal, and BMS familiarisation
  • Support behavioural safety initiatives including the Make Safety Personal (MSP) programme
  • Promote close call reporting and ensure actions are implemented with feedback to teams

What skills & experience are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Strong knowledge of HSW legislation and its practical application
  • Demonstrable experience in a H&S coordinator role on major construction projects
  • Proven competence in incident investigation and reporting
  • Ability to influence and promote a positive safety culture
  • Track record of supporting multiple projects and ensuring safe delivery

Desirable:

  • Graduate or Chartered Membership of IOSH (or working towards)
  • Knowledge of tunnelling or marine operations
  • Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
