Environment & Sustainability Advisor – Civil Works Alliance
Location: Suffolk/Ipswich - Hybrid
Join the exciting journey of one of the UK's largest nuclear projects at Sizewell C!
The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) is seeking an Environment & Sustainability Advisor to support the delivery of one of the most complex and ambitious infrastructure projects in the UK. In this role, you'll provide advice and guidance to operational teams on environmental management, compliance with the Development Consent Order (DCO), sustainability initiatives, and engagement with clients, regulators, and local stakeholders.
CWA, appointed by the Sizewell C client, brings together three leading contractors — Laing O'Rourke, Bouygues, and Balfour Beatty — to deliver the civils scope including Enabling Earthworks, Main Civil Works, and Marine and Tunnelling.
Key Responsibilities

Provide advice and support to project teams on environmental management and DCO compliance

Develop and maintain environmental management and sustainability plans for project delivery

Support on-site compliance with environmental legislation, coaching teams on best practice and mitigations

Investigate and report environmental incidents, supporting implementation of corrective actions

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, subcontractors, and local stakeholders

Deliver ecological and archaeological mitigation support across the project

Produce environmental management plans, risk assessments, site information packs and reports

Provide on-site advice on pollution control, ecological protection, archaeological measures, and sustainability initiatives

Deliver toolbox talks, training, and coaching to raise awareness of environmental responsibilities

Support audits, inspections and external assurance activities to ensure ongoing compliance
What skills & experience are we looking for?
Essential:
-
Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field
-
Practical knowledge of environmental legislation, ecology, archaeology, licences and consents
-
Experience in environmental management within construction, utilities or engineering
-
IEMA membership (or working towards)
-
Full UK driving licence with flexibility to travel
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence engaging with stakeholders

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Desirable:
-
Internal environmental auditor qualification
-
Competent ecological surveyor for at least one protected species
-
Knowledge of DCO and Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs)

Master's degree in a relevant subject

NEBOSH H&S Diploma (or equivalent)
-
Knowledge of the construction industry and associated environmental impacts
