Construction Manager – Ancillary Works

The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Manager to support the successful delivery of the Sizewell C Project.
CWA, appointed by the Sizewell C client, brings together three leading delivery contractors — Laing O'Rourke, Bouygues, and Balfour Beatty — to deliver the civils scope including Enabling Earthworks, Main Civil Works, and Marine and Tunnelling.
As a Construction Manager you will Provide strategic direction and leadership for a large complex project ensuring they align with the company's goals, budget, and timelines. Establish programme deliverables, manage resources effectively, and foster relationships with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders. Responsible for managing risks and ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards. To control, manage and deliver the logistics plan for the project and work and/or assist the Project Director in the management and delivery of the logistical requirements of the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Overall accountability for Health, Safety & Environment, ensuring RAMS, SSOW, procedures and the Construction Phase Plan are fully implemented and controlled.
- Lead pre‑starts and mobilisation with major supply chains, holding construction managers accountable for safe delivery.
- Implement clear roles, responsibilities and competencies across the project team and supply chain, aligned to risk and company governance.
- Support Project Leadership in setting and delivering sustainability targets and environmental goals.
- Lead operational delivery on large, complex projects, ensuring programme certainty and resolution of sequencing or logic conflicts.
- Own short interval control and short‑term planning, coordinating daily briefings and prioritising the critical path.
- Integrate planning and site teams with robust two‑way communication, disciplined records, and proactive risk and blocker management.
- Provide leadership on logistics and resource prioritisation, ensuring plant, access and sequencing support critical activities.
- Accountable for site setup, mobilisation and operational readiness across all project phases.
- Lead logistics planning using 3D modelling to identify constraints, phasing challenges and mitigation strategies.
- Set and enforce quality standards, ensuring works are delivered in line with specifications, ERs and regulatory requirements.
- Lead construction input into design and pre‑construction, integrating buildability, technical compliance and modern methods of construction.
- Maintain strong commercial awareness, understanding contracts, scopes, and the financial implications of decisions and delays.
- Identify procurement requirements and commercial risks, ensuring accurate records and accountability.
- Lead resource and performance management, developing project teams and senior supply chain partners while supporting effective client relationships.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
- Strong leadership and communication skills, effectively managing client relationships, multi‑disciplinary teams and complex stakeholder environments.
- Expert ability in construction management, applying best‑practice methodologies across large and complex projects.
- Proven expertise in health, safety and environmental management, driving continuous improvement in safety performance and sustainability outcomes.
- Advanced knowledge of programme planning, scheduling and short‑term control, ensuring certainty of delivery and mitigation of risk.
- Comprehensive understanding of commercial management, including budgeting, cost control, value engineering and financial delivery targets.
- Strong capability in contract management, procurement and negotiation, including resolving disputes and managing supply chain performance.
- Expert understanding of quality assurance and quality control, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards and regulatory requirements.
- Highly proficient in interpreting technical drawings, designs and specifications, with experience across civils, buildings and infrastructure.
- Advanced experience in risk management, identifying, mitigating and controlling technical, commercial and programme risks.
- Demonstrated ability to lead conflict resolution and negotiations, both personally and through developing others.
- Extensive experience with construction technology, including BIM, digital delivery tools and data‑driven decision making.
- Strong knowledge of design processes and RIBA stages, integrating design management with buildability and operational delivery.
