What are we looking for?

We are looking for people with a genuine interest in construction and the built environment. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and ambitious.

Key traits for success in this role are being a good team player, attention to detail, flexibility and resilience.

Individuals in this role will work on multiple construction sites across the UK.

In order to become competent and work in this role it is necessary to complete a Level 2 Apprenticeship with the organisation in the first year to 18 months of your tenure. This is fully funded and paid for by the organisation.

There are excellent career prospects in this role with the potential to progress to a supervisory / management role within the assembly specialist field or into other construction management routes.

Role Overview

This occupation is found in the construction sector. Its core purpose is the onsite assembly of pre-manufactured components as part of a Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) approach to construction. This is a rapidly growing part of the UK construction sector. Projects include; infrastructure, healthcare, education, science and research, green energy and data centres.

Structures and components are manufactured in our factories and then transported to the construction site, ready for location, connection, and finishing. The assembly specialists work on construction sites to assemble these large pre-manufactured components to deliver major UK civil engineering projects.

These components are made largely of steel and concrete, which are lifted into place using cranes and fixed using a number of different methodologies. The assembly specialist works collaboratively with lifting and other site teams to prepare for, land and fix these components.

An employee in this occupation will be responsible for the assembly and installation of manufactured components to agreed design specification and tolerance. This includes the safe handling, moving, installing, and finishing to specification and within deadlines under the guidance of senior team colleagues or a supervisor depending on the size of the project.

In their daily work, an employee in this role would be expected to interact with the project team i.e. engineers, supervision and those from other organisations such, sub-contractors.

The occupation involves working outside on a construction site, in a range of weather conditions, on projects anywhere in the UK. In some instances, it will involve travelling and working away from home during the working week (Monday to Friday). When working away from home, funds towards travel and accommodation are provided.

National. Current projects are located across the UK and the assembly specialists' teams will work on different projects, with project engagements typically lasting from 6-12 months.

Laing O'Rourke collaborate with trusted and approved training providers for our apprenticeship delivery. Successful candidates will be enrolled with T3 training during the onboarding stage.

Entry requirements

· Eligibility without restrictions to work in the UK with a valid work permit if applicable.

· Full mobility to enable travel to various project locations if required.

 

The Laing O'Rourke Trade and Technical Apprenticeship programme - what can you expect?

 

The Trade and Technical Apprenticeship programme provides you with a formal college education, leading to a Level 2 apprenticeship standard. You will also gain a broad set of trade technical skills through on-the-job training, supported by our qualified and experienced workforce, and construction professionals. A dedicated mentor and approved training provider will work closely with you, providing regular feedback on your progress towards completing your apprenticeship.

 

Typical working hours across our construction sites are 07:30am to 18:00pm Monday to Friday. With some weekend opportunities available but not mandatory. Flexibility will be considered.

As our projects are based across the UK. Where our people need to reside in temporary accommodation funding towards this is provided.

 

Essential Pre Requisites

· Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

· Strong team player

· Logical and to have good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise

Knowledge and understanding of the industry is very helpful but not essential

There are no prior learning or qualification requirements.
