Commercial Manager - Slough

The Opportunity

Laing O'Rourke is recruiting an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager to join the team delivering a major Data Centre project in Slough.

This is an exciting opportunity to take commercial responsibility across allocated project sections and work packages, collaborating closely with project teams, the client and supply chain partners to support successful project delivery.

What will the role look like?

• Manage commercial activities across allocated project sections and work packages.
• Take ownership of commercial performance, including cost control, forecasting, risk and opportunity management.
• Manage subcontract procurement, administration, change, payments, accounts and claims.
• Prepare monthly cost reports, commercial forecasts, contract reviews and management information.
• Identify, assess, price and manage change throughout the project lifecycle.
• Advise project teams on contractual obligations, commercial risks and opportunities.
• Support project budget establishment and maintain effective cost control.
• Ensure robust commercial governance, contractual compliance and accurate reporting.
• Build strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and wider project stakeholders.
• Support and mentor junior members of the Commercial team, sharing knowledge and promoting best practice.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

• Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management; RICS membership desirable.
• Significant experience in a Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management role on major, complex construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of subcontract management, change control, cost reporting and contract administration.
• Experience working on data centre projects or other major construction projects is desirable.
• Excellent commercial awareness, with the ability to identify and manage risk and protect project value.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
