About the Role

As a key member of our Commercial team, you will take ownership of all commercial activities across your designated project area. Whether overseeing a section of a large project, a medium-sized scheme, or running a smaller project independently, you will ensure strong commercial, contractual and financial performance at every stage.

You will manage specialist subcontractors, work closely with client and project teams, and provide expert commercial oversight to achieve project and business profitability targets. A core part of this role is ensuring cash flow and margin are effectively managed, while maintaining compliance with Group processes and promoting best practice throughout the project lifecycle.

Working across both pre‑construction and construction phases, you will plan, monitor and support operational delivery, guiding teams to achieve successful outcomes aligned with the company's business plan. You will also play a vital part in developing commercial talent—supporting the growth of your direct reports and contributing to the wider development of the commercial function.

Key Deliverables and Accountabilities

  • Sole commercial responsibility for a project or a section of a project.
  • Form an integral part of the multidisciplinary team responsible for project delivery and client service.
  • Ensure interim applications for payment and certifications are issued and agreed.
  • Management, administration and settlement of subcontractors' accounts, including accountability for those delegated to your team.
  • Preparation and management of claims.
  • The flexible management of staff to provide an effective commercial service for the business.
  • Leadership of the commercial team; including identifying and communicating development & training needs, appraisal, retention of staff and assisting in
  • Providing staff with support and guidance on their job responsibilities.
  • Negotiating with client's representatives, sub-contractors and other consultants to achieve project results whilst maintaining group relationships.
  • Advise on contractual implications of intended courses of action.
  • Advise and manage commercial risks within the project or projects.
  • Ensure preparation of monthly contract review reports, communicate key risk, opportunity and change with transparency, in a timely manner.
  • Ensure preparation and issue of weekly Business Plan Review (BPR) information.
  • For the project(s) you are responsible for, ensure the contractual chain between head contract and supply chain is established and maintained
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts information.
  • Preparation of contractual and commercial input into Project Execution Plan.
  • Establish from Contract award the project “budget to build” in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that appropriate methods are in place to identify change and implement change control process and agreement in a timely manner
  • Ensure that contract documents are properly executed prior to project commencement.
  • Adopt appropriate measures for management of risk.
  • Communicating clearly & confidently to a professional standard
  • Keep your manager fully advised of any issue/risk which has arisen or might arise and which could affect the business/project.
  • Provide contractual and commercial support to work winning.
  • When appointed, undertake the work winning role of Bid Manager.
  • When appointed, undertake the integrated role of package manager on a project.
