Job Title: Modern Methods Of Construction Apprentice – Manufacturing/Elec/Mech Engineering

**This apprenticeship will commence in September 2026 **

Location: Worksop – Centre of Excellence for Modern Construction (CEMC)

 

What is Modern Methods of Construction?

Supporting the operations of a modern manufacturing facility, the role will include applying your technical skills to overcome problems. Finding solutions to make the production of pre-cast elements more efficient. This will involve managing projects and initiatives to support manufacturing operations

Exposure to lean techniques, engineering solutions and project co-ordination.

 

What are we looking for?

We are looking for people with a genuine interest in manufacturing where they can apply engineering skills to develop the Centre of Excellence of Modern construction facility. People who are fascinated with solving problems. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and ambitious, with an interest of Modern Methods of Construction. The ideal candidate will be someone willing to be hands-on and have a desire to develop through the program.

Key deliverables and responsibilities

  • Learn how to turn technical ideas and requirements into real engineering designs and manufacturing solutions
  • Support problem-solving activities to identify faults and help implement effective fixes.
  • Read and create technical documents such as drawings, CAD models, and engineering reports.
  • Collect and analyse data to help make accurate engineering decisions.
  • Assist with planning and delivering projects while considering safety, quality, cost, and sustainability.
  • Follow health, safety, environmental, and quality standards within a manufacturing environment.
  • Gain hands-on experience using manufacturing processes, tools, and technologies.
  • Carry out equipment checks, help resolve faults, and support quality assurance activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives using methods such as Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Work closely with colleagues and stakeholders while developing your skills, knowledge, and professional behaviours.

Apprenticeship level and standard  

Level 6, apprenticeship Manufacturing engineer (degree) / Skills England

Laing O'Rourke collaborates with trusted and approved training providers, usually a university, to deliver our apprenticeship programmes.

Entry requirements

  • Eligibility without restrictions to work in the UK.  We cannot offer visa sponsorships.

You must have one of the following:

  • A minimum of two A-Levels at grade B or above, which must include mathematics or further mathematics and of the following: Physics, biology, chemistry or engineering
  • Level 3 BTEC national diploma in engineering DM or above (120 credits)
  • Level 3 BTEC national extended diploma in engineering with at least 180 credits at DDM level
  • Level 3 Cambridge Technical Diploma in engineering (VRQ) at DM or above
  • Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma in engineering (VRQ) at DDM
  • Level 3 Foundation Technical Level Engineering at D or above and one A-level at grade B from the list above
  • BTEC level 4 HNC (Distinction)
  • BTEC level 5 HND (Distinction)
  • Level 3 EAL Diploma in an engineering-based subject at distinction level
  • T-Level Engineering Qualifications with distinction overall and B or above in core

  • CV Submission   
    Submit your CV for review. We will assess your application against the entry criteria for the role you are applying for.   
  • Online Assessment   
    You will complete a series of assessments designed to understand how you approach workplace situations, your preferred ways of working, as well as exercises to evaluate your critical thinking and numerical reasoning skills.   
  • Video Interview   
    At this stage, you will be invited to record responses to two questions set by our hiring team. You will have sufficient time to prepare and ensure you present yourself confidently.   
  • Assessment Centre   
    Our in-person assessment centres, held at a LOR office, provide an opportunity for you to demonstrate your skills through a combination of individual tasks, short interviews, and group activities. This is also a chance to experience our culture first-hand.   
  • Outcome   
    We aim to provide feedback and communicate the outcome of your assessment centre within two weeks.
