We're looking for bright and motivated apprentices who will bring energy, new ideas and a fresh perspective to help us become the recognised leader and transform the construction and engineering industry, and maximise the socio-economic benefits our projects deliver in their local community 

 

Role Overview  

 As part of the social sustainability function, you will be working alongside experienced Social and Environmental Advisors, supporting with the development of delivery of action plan data collection, reporting, and evaluation.  Whilst under supervision, the role will include working within teams, engaging stakeholders, and communicating across functions to ensure that the Laing O'Rourke Sustainability strategy is embedded across all our projects. 

 The role will typically be working on multiple initiatives, covering a variety of projects, focus areas, and stakeholders. These initiatives encompass elements of School engagement activities, community investment programmes, employability initiatives and communications. Therefore, the day-to-day responsibilities will vary depending on circumstances and in turn means they could work independently, in a team, or collaboratively with multiple stakeholders. 

 

Key Deliverables and Accountabilities  

  • Delivery of social sustainability objectives, including school engagement, environmental initiatives, and community investment activities 
  • Communicate with multiple teams, embedding key sustainability activity into day-to-day practices  
  • Research social sustainability related trends, and identify opportunities & risks  
  • Championing our social sustainability strategy by influencing colleagues to adopt new habits and make a positive difference  
  • Coordinate the capture and reporting of numerical data from various sources to demonstrate impact through the calculation of social return on investment. 
  • Support the development of local delivery plans for social sustainability commitments on projects, and in offices 
  • Contribute to team meetings, offering ideas and sharing best practice across working groups 
  • Collaborate with key external partners to ensure we understand, and meet expectations  
  • Act as an ambassador for the social sustainability function across Laing O'Rourke 
  • Specific tasks and duties as required during rotations in different parts of the business 

 

Location:  

As a project-led business, the location of our work can vary depending on project needs. This role may require you to be prepared to work away from home at project sites across the UK.      

 

Apprenticeship Level and Standard  

 Corporate responsibility and sustainability practitioner - Level 4, 36 months

   

Entry requirements  

We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:   

 4 GCSEs at C/4+, including Maths & English 

  • Minimum of 72 UCAS points across 3 A levels or equivalent 
  • Have strong literacy skills 
  • Be flexible as you may be required to work away     
  • Be eligible to work in the UK.  Unfortunately, we cannot offer visa sponsorship

  • CV Submission 
    Submit your CV for review. We will assess your application against the entry criteria for the role you are applying for. 
  • Online Assessment 
    You will complete a series of assessments designed to understand how you approach workplace situations, your preferred ways of working, as well as exercises to evaluate your critical thinking and numerical reasoning skills. 
  • Video Interview 
    At this stage, you will be invited to record responses to two questions set by our hiring team. You will have sufficient time to prepare and ensure you present yourself confidently. 
  • Assessment Centre 
    Our in-person assessment centres, held at a LOR office, provide an opportunity for you to demonstrate your skills through a combination of individual tasks, short interviews, and group activities. This is also a chance to experience our culture first-hand. 
  • Outcome 
    We aim to provide feedback and communicate the outcome of your assessment centre within two weeks.
