- As the HS&W function for Laing O'Rourke our primary goal is to support the business in the healthy and safe delivery of its operations, in all workplaces, across every stage of the construction lifecycle and via the involvement of all stakeholders. Only together will we achieve new levels of HS&W performance.
Role Overview
- Act as an adviser, facilitator and champion for Health, Safety & Wellbeing delivery within their project/business/facility.
- Provide local advice and support necessary to assist managers and staff to fulfil their health and safety responsibilities to the high standards demanded by the Business.
- Facilitate and coach operational teams on I+W and the respective engagement tools to allow the team to engage effectively with the workforce.
- Carry out relevant H&S assurance activities providing confidence to the business that operational effectiveness of all relevant processes, are being delivered.
Key Deliverables and Accountabilities
- Support the implementation and monitoring of health, safety and wellbeing across the project/business/facility and measure performance against deliverables.
- Support engagement with the workforce to understand how work is carried out in practice and how effective risk controls are, identifying opportunities for learning and continuous improvement.
- Regularly gather discovery feedback from the workforce and communicate it to management to allow effective leadership.
- Innovate, research and promote the adoption of cutting edge, market leading products, technologies, methods and services to support the healthy and safe delivery.
- Support and coordinate the investigation of incidents including high potential incidents to ensure effective learning outcomes and timely closure of required actions.
- Regularly promote, capture and share examples of exemplary HS&W performance in action across the business via internal media and external social networking.
- Actively promote positive learning opportunities by effectively cascading business and industry communications.
- Support implementation of the H&S Management System including compliance with all relevant statutory provisions.
- Support delivery of any necessary training and coaching.
Location
As a project-led business, the location of our work can vary depending on project needs. This role may require you to be prepared to work away from home at project sites across the UK.
Preferred Degree Subjects
Health & Saftey, Environmental Health, Engineering or any other Construction related degrees
Professional Accreditation
National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH)

Video Interview
At this stage, you will be invited to record responses to two questions set by our hiring team. You will have sufficient time to prepare and ensure you present yourself confidently. -
Assessment Centre
Our in-person assessment centres, held at a LOR office, provide an opportunity for you to demonstrate your skills through a combination of individual tasks, short interviews, and group activities. This is also a chance to experience our culture first-hand. -
Outcome
We aim to provide feedback and communicate the outcome of your assessment centre within two weeks.
Entry requirements
We are looking for graduates who meet the following criteria:
- Studying or have obtained a degree stated in our degree preferences above
- Studying a degree course with a clear route to professional accreditation
- Your degree classification should be 2:2 or higher
- Strong numeracy and literacy skills
- Flexibility as you may be required to work away
- Eligible to work in the UK
