Technical Lead – Main Civils Works
Location: Orwell Park/Suffolk

The Civil Works Alliance (CWA), appointed by the Sizewell C client, unites three industry-leading contractors — Laing O'Rourke, Bouygues, and Balfour Beatty — to deliver the full civils scope, including Enabling Earthworks, Main Civil Works, and Marine and Tunnelling.

As the Technical Lead reporting directly to the Senior Project Manager, you'll take charge of a talented team of engineers and surveyors, driving the successful delivery of complex stainless-steel pools, tanks, liners, sumps, and bespoke embedded components. This is your chance to lead critical engineering efforts that will shape the future of Sizewell C and make a tangible impact on the energy landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of all engineering activities related to the Contractor's Design (excluding permanent design) and fabrication of required components throughout the project lifecycle.
- Select, manage, and coordinate Tier 2 subcontractors to ensure smooth fabrication and delivery processes.
- Oversee delivery and on-site commissioning of stainless-steel pools, tanks, liners, sumps, and special embedded parts in line with project timelines and requirements.
- Liaise with key stakeholders to ensure compliance with customer drawings, specifications, and regulatory standards.
- Produce and maintain all necessary technical documentation to support the delivery and commissioning of components.
- Identify, govern, and manage resolution of technical issues, queries, and non-conformances, collaborating closely with the Responsible Designer and other stakeholders.
- Ensure timely resolution of technical challenges to prevent any impact on the overall project programme.
- Manage Temporary Works, Welding, Fabrication, and Surveying activities within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
- Maintain strict adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory requirements throughout all engineering and fabrication processes.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
Knowledge & Skills
- Proven experience in the design, manufacture, assembly, and installation of large-scale stainless-steel fabrications.
- Experience working on nuclear construction sites, with a strong focus on regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and health & safety standards.
- Familiarity with EPR design principles and operating within the framework of an NEC-type contract.
- Skilled in writing, managing, and reviewing technical documentation and design drawings.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing a team of engineers to successfully deliver projects in line with requirements.
- Ability to manage technical queries effectively and collaborate with customers to resolve issues.
- Proficiency in Navisworks and other 3D engineering and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software packages.
- Strong engineering expertise with a hands-on approach.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of liaising with all levels of stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
