Senior Sustainability Advisor
📍 Location: Sizewell C, Suffolk
🏢 Employer: Expanded (part of Laing O'Rourke)
⏰ Contract: Full-time, On-site
🚗 Requirement: Driving licence essential (site location)
⚠️ Note: Sponsorship is not available for this role
About the Project
Join Expanded, part of Laing O'Rourke, on one of the UK's most high-profile infrastructure projects: Sizewell C, a new nuclear development on the Suffolk coast. The site sits within an area of outstanding natural beauty and ecological significance, including the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, Sizewell Marshes SSSI, and the Minsmere to Walberswick Special Protection Area. Protecting the environment and delivering sustainability are at the heart of everything we do here.
The Role
As a Senior Sustainability Advisor, you'll be the environmental specialist on site, working closely with your manager but otherwise operating as the go-to advisor for all sustainability matters. While this is very much a lone ranger role, you'll be surrounded by the wider project team, giving you plenty of scope to influence, engage and champion positive change across all areas of delivery.
You don't need prior social or carbon expertise, but a strong interest in both and the ability to drive ideas and influence stakeholders is key.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all works are planned and delivered with the highest regard for environmental protection, ecology, and biodiversity
- Monitor and report on environmental performance, including emissions, resource use, and waste reduction
- Identify opportunities to reduce energy use, carbon footprint, and environmental impact across the project
- Advise and support project teams on environmental risk management, ensuring mitigations are implemented effectively
- Engage and influence subcontractors, clients, and the wider workforce to champion environmental best practice
- Promote innovation in sustainable construction methods, materials, and processes
- Lead or support investigations into environmental incidents and drive corrective action
- Provide environmental training, briefings, and upskilling for project staff
What We're Looking For
- Passion for sustainability and environmental best practice
- An engaging and confident communicator who can inspire teams, drive ideas forward, and influence stakeholders at every level
- Organised, proactive, and able to prioritise in a fast-paced project environment
- Experience working on infrastructure or high-risk environmental sites (preferred)
- Degree in Environmental Management, Sustainability, or related field (preffered)
- IEMA/IES/IEEM membership (practitioner level preferred)
What's in it for you
- Competitive salary + car/travel allowance
- Private Medical Insurance
- Enhanced pension & parental leave
- Life, dental, and critical illness cover + income protection
- 33 days holiday (including bank holidays)
- Professional development opportunities
