Project Façade Engineer
Location: National role, typically supporting projects across the M62 Corridor
Full-Time | Permanent
Are you ready to take your expertise to the next level and play a pivotal role in the delivery of high-profile, technically complex projects? At Laing O'Rourke, we're seeking a talented and driven Project Façade Engineer to join our expanding team.
This is a national role, typically supporting projects across the M62 corridor—offering the opportunity to be part of a diverse and exciting regional portfolio. You'll play a key role in delivering technically advanced projects across sectors including; Healthcare, Data Centres; Defence; Science & Research and Nuclear and Green Energy.
From early-stage design through to final delivery, you will ensure that façade systems are innovative, sustainable, and technically sound—contributing to some of the UK's most complex and high-profile construction programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Design Coordination: Ensure alignment between concept design, project requirements, and trade contractors. Identify and address key design issues, including critical quality and tolerance matters as the design progresses. Contribute to the contract review process and expedite designers' and trade contractors' contributions to the project Health and Safety file/Operational and Maintenance Manuals.
- Technical Oversight: Review tender documents, assess risks, and explore value engineering opportunities. Comment on and propose appropriate arrangements for the design responsibilities of both internal teams and specialist trade contractors. Review concept design feasibility to identify key issues and critical areas.
- Programme and Deliverables Management: Contribute to the production of the package design and procurement programme, collaborating with planning and resourcing functions. Identify and agree deliverables, ensuring effective processes are in place for reporting design, procurement, production, and installation progress. Contribute to the procurement process, including scope definition, review of returns for compliance, buildability, quality, and value engineering.
- Subcontractor Management: Monitor the design, manufacture, and installation of subcontractor works to ensure compliance with project standards. Assess subcontractor staff capability and performance, ensuring coordination and package interfaces are addressed and that each party amends their work as design progresses.
- Information Flow & Communication: Facilitate effective communication across teams and ensure timely responses to RFIs/TQs. Monitor external changes to work plans and report on the effects of these changes.
- Compliance & Approvals: Ensure design outputs meet contract, statutory, and internal standards, coordinating required approvals and ensuring critical deliverables are in place.
- Safety and Quality Assurance: Champion safety, zero-harm principles, and quality assurance throughout all phases of the project.
- Interface & Integration: Collaborate across design and construction teams to share best practices, optimise resources, and promote innovation by introducing and implementing ideas from within the business and workforce.
- Risk & Commercial Insight: Advise commercial teams on design-related risks, opportunities, and cost-effective solutions. Ensure that buildability and value engineering opportunities are fully considered in design outputs.
- Project Reporting & Leadership: Track progress, lead section/package meetings, and ensure alignment with commercial, programme, and safety objectives. Plan the programming of day to day resource requirements and communicate them to the construction team.
About You

- Broad understanding of facade engineering principles (mechanics, thermal physics, optics, acoustics).
- Experience identifying risks such as cold bridging or water ingress and implementing best practice solutions.
- Strong communication, leadership, and people management skills.
