Methods Engineer – Pre-Construction

Location: London/Ipswich (with site visits to Suffolk as required)

The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Methods Engineer to support the successful delivery of the Sizewell C Project.

CWA, appointed by the Sizewell C client, brings together three leading delivery contractors — Laing O'Rourke, Bouygues, and Balfour Beatty — to deliver the civils scope including Enabling Earthworks, Main Civil Works, and Marine and Tunnelling.

We are seeking a Methods Engineer to support the development of optimised construction solutions during preconstruction, bid and early delivery stages. This newly formed and growing team within Technical Services offers excellent opportunities for professional development and technical growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support preconstruction design and methods development into construction delivery
  • Contribute to methodology solutions aligned with design development and site constraints
  • Assist in developing construction sequencing following Method-led Construction principles
  • Support integration of temporary and permanent works design
  • Develop logistics strategies and concept temporary works schemes
  • Coordinate with discipline specialists across in-house and external supply chain teams
  • Support development of cost and carbon estimates for works packages
  • Prepare detailed schedules for construction methodology options
  • Promote and support the adoption of modern methods of construction
  • Identify risks and assist with mitigation planning
  • Record lessons learned and capture knowledge for future projects
  • Assist with training resources for the Methods Engineering Team and wider project teams
  • Use BIM and digital tools to enhance preconstruction and delivery outputs
  • Provide reinforcement detailing and constructability support, with focus on prefabrication and productivity

What skills & experience are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Previous project experience in complex/major project environments at Site Engineer or Section Engineer level (or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies and modern methods of construction
  • Previous experience in reinforcement detailing analysis and optimisation
  • Understanding of project planning and resourcing requirements
  • Awareness of CDM Regulations and safe systems of work
  • Comfortable working with digital models and BIM tools
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with deadline-driven outputs

Desirable:

  • Progressing towards professional accreditation in Civil Engineering (Incorporated/Chartered)
  • Experience working across multiple projects
  • Confidence to challenge traditional construction approaches
