Job Title: Lead GIS Engineer – Power Sector
Join an industry-leading Digital Engineering team shaping the future of power infrastructure.
Are you ready to take the lead in driving GIS capability across some of the UK's most ambitious power projects? Do you thrive on building teams, delivering innovation, and embedding digital solutions that transform how we work? If so, we'd love to hear from you.
At Laing O'Rourke, our Digital Engineering team is at the forefront of innovation, collaboration, and modern methods of delivery in the power sector. Our mission is clear: to remain the recognised leader in digital excellence and construction innovation.
We're now seeking a Lead GIS Engineer to define and deliver GIS strategies across the power sector – enabling smarter design, safer construction, and stronger stakeholder engagement.
What you'll be doing
- Lead the development and implementation of GIS strategies across major power programmes, ensuring alignment with digital engineering standards and business objectives.
- Champion GIS adoption within the power sector, influencing project leaders, site engineers, and external stakeholders to embed GIS into everyday data driven decision-making.
- Build and lead a high-performing GIS team, developing capability, scalability, and succession planning.
- Establish geospatial governance frameworks, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and security across all power projects.
- Design, configure, and publish interactive ArcGIS Online applications, web maps, and dashboards that support decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
- Act as a connector between digital design, construction, and engineering disciplines, embedding best practice and improving workflows.
- Support field data collection and mobile workflows, ensuring real-time updates into project platforms.
- Produce high-quality maps, reports, and visualisations to inform planning, delivery, and client reporting.
- Integrate geospatial datasets from multiple sources (CAD, survey, BIM, asset data) into usable GIS outputs.
- Ensure the right tools and processes are used for data gathering, cleansing, visualisation, and dashboarding.
- Assist the Digital Lead and wider Digital team to author project digital documentation including the BEP (BIM Execution Plan)
- Contribute and influence wider geospatial initiatives both within the power sector and across the wider LOR business
What we're looking for
- Experience in leading GIS delivery across multiple large-scale projects.
- Ability to manage and grow a specialist team, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: able to listen to user needs, manage expectations, and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Confidence to influence others, present ideas, and challenge assumptions constructively.
- Proven experience with ArcGIS Online and the ESRI desktop suite, including creating and publishing web maps, apps, and dashboards (typically 5+ years).
- Strong technical skills in data extraction, transformation, and integration from diverse engineering and survey data sources.
- Understanding of spatial data standards and best practice in construction and infrastructure.
- Passion for innovation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
Why Join Us?
- Play a pivotal role in career-defining infrastructure projects shaping the nation's future energy network.
- Work within a culture that values technical excellence, collaboration, and R&D investment.
- Access cutting-edge tools, software, and training to keep you at the forefront of digital delivery.
- Enjoy a competitive salary and benefits package, with support for your professional growth.
