Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor – Healthcare (7382)
An opportunity to grow your impact on a pioneering science and technology campus.
Laing O'Rourke is proud to be delivering the Oxford Ellison Institute of Technology—a worldclass environment where research, innovation and entrepreneurship come together. As part of our team, you'll help shape a space where people can safely do their best work and where wellbeing, inclusion and trust are part of everyday life.
This role is ideal for someone with solid H&S experience who's ready to step up, take on more responsibility and develop their capability on a highprofile, transformational project.
Why this role matters
Our “Rethinking Safety through Inclusion + Wellbeing (I+W)” philosophy is transforming how we think about safety. It's about learning from what goes right, understanding real work, and empowering everyone to contribute to safer, smarter outcomes.
As a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor, you'll play a key part in bringing these principles to life.
What you'll be doing
You'll work closely with project teams to support, coach and influence positive safety behaviours. Your responsibilities will include:
- Championing the I+W programme across site and encouraging inclusive, peoplefocused safety conversations
- Helping deliver I+W tools and supporting teams to reach practical and ethical safety outcomes
- Supporting (and where ready, leading) Fatal & Severe Risk Assessments
- Facilitating open discussions that identify what's working well and where improvements could help
- Assisting with positive investigations/appreciative enquiries that explore everyday success
- Supporting work-as-imagined vs. work-as-done reviews to understand real conditions
- Gathering workforce feedback and sharing insights with leaders
- Coaching managers in soft skills such as active listening and collaborative problem solving
- Promoting new technologies and approaches that strengthen project safety
- Supporting and sometimes leading incident investigations, ensuring timely learning
- Helping develop local HSW strategies aligned to business priorities
- Acting as a point of contact for communications with regulatory bodies
- Supporting delivery and assurance of Laing O'Rourke's Safety Management System
- Identifying HSW training needs and contributing to coaching or awareness sessions
This is a great opportunity to develop and broaden your advisory experience while being supported by a highly experienced HSW team.
What we're looking for
Qualifications & Experience
- Level 4 qualification in Health & Safety (or actively working toward it)
- A solid understanding of occupational health, wellbeing and risk management
- Experience in assurance, auditing and/or incident investigation
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., TechIOSH) or a willingness to progress toward it
Skills & Behaviours
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trust quickly
- Skilled listener who can facilitate open discussions and encourage honest dialogue
- Confident giving constructive, supportive feedback
- Strong analytical thinking and sound judgement
- Positive, proactive and open to learning and growth
- Organised, reliable and able to prioritise effectively
- Calm under pressure and able to work collaboratively
- A selfstarter with enthusiasm and ambition to develop
