The Opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced Due Diligence Specialist to join our Compliance team. This critical role will be responsible for conducting comprehensive due diligence on prospective clients and joint venture partners, as well as supporting Procurement in supplier due diligence.The successful candidate will play a key part in protecting the business from reputational, operational, legal, and financial risks by providing informed and balanced risk assessments.
Role Purpose:
- To support Laing O'Rourke in its commitment to meeting its legal, regulatory and policy compliance obligations with particular focus on anti-bribery and corruption, anti-money laundering, fraud, competition, sanctions and modern slavery.
- To support Laing O'Rourke in its commitment to working ethically, sustainably and with integrity at all times.
- To conduct wide-ranging research and due diligence into the companies, organisations and key people with whom Laing O'Rourke does business.
- To develop information and briefing products and reports that will enable Laing O'Rourke to assess and manage risk in its business relationships with clients, joint venture partners, supply chain and contractors.
Key Deliverables & Accountabilities:
- Develop and maintain due diligence frameworks, tools, and procedures to ensure consistency and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct due diligence reviews on all prospective clients, funding consortiums and joint venture partners.
- Monitor the company's ongoing screening database and escalate any compliance related issues as appropriate.
- Provide clear, concise due diligence reports and compliance risk assessments.
- Maintain a well-organised digital record of all summaries, reports and briefing documents, which are easy to identify in any future discovery process.
- Be prepared to discuss, retrieve and present your work for the purposes of legal enquiries, litigation, investigation or audits.
- Maintain relationships with various functions to ensure compliance with the due diligence processes.
- Provide training and support to individuals within other functions to help them conduct research effectively and assist with research where needed.
- Support internal investigations where research skills are necessary.
- Stay up to date with emerging risk trends, legislation, and best practice in third-party due diligence, particularly relevant to the construction industry and markets in which we operate
Technical Capabilities:
- Proven experience in a due diligence, compliance, risk, or similar role – preferably in construction, infrastructure, or related sectors.
- Strong understanding of reputational, financial crime, regulatory, and operational risk.
- Proficiency in navigating around a range of online subscription portals to search for and retrieve data (e.g., Companies House, Thomson Reuters, Dow Jones, etc.)
- Ability to identify and interpret key risks from corporate and financial information, public records, databases, and open sources, and make sound, evidence-backed risk judgments.
- Exceptional report writing, analytical, and communication skills.
Qualifications:
- Degree-qualified in a relevant field (e.g., Law, Business, Risk Management, or similar).
- Professional certifications in risk, compliance, or investigations (e.g., ICA, ACAMS, CFE) are desirable but not essential.
