We are looking to recruit a Digital Engineer or Senior Digital Engineer with strong skills in 3D modelling, 4D simulation, and advanced animation and visual production to join our Central Services team based in Dartford.
In this role, you'll support various Digital Team Leads under the guidance of the Central Services Digital Leader, helping to develop, implement, and roll out Laing O'Rourke's digital solutions as part of our wider digital transformation strategy.
Working as part of a fast-moving, agile team, your responsibilities will include deploying digital tools and processes across key projects ranging from detailed 3D modelling and 4D construction simulations to producing high-quality, animation-led content that communicates complex design, manufacturing, and construction activities. You'll support multiple disciplines based on evolving business needs and stakeholder requests.
You'll also help drive the consistent application and continuous improvement of our Digital Standards, staying aligned with industry best practices and emerging technologies.
Key responsibilities:
- Supporting the Digital Team Leads to scope services and deadlines for digital tasks requested company wide and regularly communicating progress and any threats to deadline and delivery.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to drive coordinated digital solutions that support project delivery, planning, and communication goals.
- Translating project information into accurate and detailed 3D and 4D models, incorporating construction sequencing, staging, and logistics.
- Creating and managing high-quality visual outputs, including advanced animations, rendered sequences, and visual storytelling assets to support design, planning, stakeholder engagement and communication.
- Championing the use of 4D construction sequencing tools and animation workflows to visually convey programme-critical information.
- Developing innovative visualisation techniques in line with emerging technology trends and evolving project requirements.
- Driving continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance visual delivery through process refinement, automation, and modern technologies.
- Actively contributing towards and promoting best practice and the development of LOR's Digital Engineering service offering. Seek out opportunities to influence and share lessons learnt beyond direct line management reporting lines.
- Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders, (e.g. bid/project senior leadership team, business unit specific).
- Proactively looking for opportunities and take the initiative to enhance digital delivery, leaning on previous experience and the surrounding team to improve outcomes and efficiency.
- Delivering digital outputs on time, to scope, and to the required standard.
- Developing and encouraging direct reports (where applicable) through constructive feedback and mentoring to ensure excellence & consistency in delivery.
- Mentoring and supporting trainees, fostering growth in 3D modelling, 4D sequencing, and animation techniques.
Qualifications, training and experience:
Essential:
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive, collaborative approach to teamwork.
- Knowledge of design, manufacturing, and construction processes, with the ability to communicate these visually.
- Design, construction or engineering related degree or at least 5 years relatable experience.

- Proven experience with animation and visualisation software such as 3ds Max, Blender, Unreal Engine for high-end visual output.
- Working knowledge of 4D planning tools such as Synchro Pro (or similar) for time-based simulations and visual programme integration.
- Experienced in visualisation post-production software applications and producing presentation content (Adobe Creative Cloud suite of applications – Premier Pro, After Effects, etc).
- Ability to train others (individually and in groups), supporting their development in digital tools, 4D sequencing, and visualisation workflows.
- Able to work as a team member in the Digital Central Services Team collaborating with all those around them.
- Able to work independently, make decisions and progress at the pace agreed for the appointed task.
- The ability and willingness to travel to other projects, offices, and group events from time to time.
Desirable:
- Experience showcasing digital models/outputs in a VR/AR or immersive environment.
- Experience with scripting and visual coding languages such as Python and Blueprints (UE) enabling automation, custom tool development, and interactive visualisation workflows.
- Familiarity with additional 3D and BIM software including Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley Systems and ArchiCAD to support cross-platform workflows.
