The Monklands Replacement Project is a nationally significant scheme that will set new benchmarks in sustainability, digital delivery, and collaborative construction.

We're looking for a Deputy Design Manager with a background in building construction contracting, ideally with experience in on-site coordination, technical delivery, and working closely with design consultants and subcontractors.

What You'll Do

Your focus will include:

  • Reviewing and feeding back on design documentation from a construction practicality and sequencing point of view.
  • Supporting consultant teams to align with project strategies, budgets, and Laing O'Rourke's integrated design and construction processes.
  • Ensuring effective collaboration and issue resolution across design, construction, and supply chain interfaces (BIM/Digital Engineering tools included).
  • Driving value through design optimisation, DfMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly), and integration of offsite solutions where appropriate.
  • Supporting information control, design compliance, and change management processes throughout the design lifecycle.

What We're Looking For

  • A background in building construction contracting (main contractor or specialist contractor).
  • First degree or equivalent in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • Practical understanding of design coordination, buildability, sequencing, and temporary works considerations.
  • Familiarity with digital construction tools and collaborative design processes is advantageous (BIM, CDEs, etc.).
  • Experience working on complex, multi-disciplinary construction projects (healthcare or large public sector a bonus).

Technical Competencies:

  • Buildability reviews & design coordination
  • Understanding of temporary works, logistics, and sequencing
  • Design compliance & change control
  • DfMA knowledge or interest
  • Consultant and subcontractor management
  • Interdisciplinary interface resolution
  • Familiarity with digital tools like BIM, Navisworks, or Revit

Don't match all the criteria? We are open and always happy to hear from people with transferable skill sets and a commitment to learning.
