The Opportunity:

As our Security business continues to grow, we're looking to expand our commercial team with an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor, based at Laing O'Rourke's Head Office in Dartford.

With security services operating across more than 35 sites, this is an opportunity to gain broad commercial experience, work closely with operational teams and contribute to the continued success of a growing business.

What will the role look like?

• Supporting the day-to-day commercial and financial management of the Security business.
• Raising and administering purchase and subcontract orders, liaising with suppliers to ensure effective delivery.
• Pricing and managing variations, maintaining contract records and ensuring costs are accurately captured.
• Preparing valuations, applications for payment and client invoices, alongside processing supplier invoices and monitoring outstanding balances.
• Developing quotations and rate build-ups, taking account of labour, materials, plant and subcontractor costs.
• Producing monthly Cost Value Analysis (CVA) reports, tracking costs, revenue and overall commercial performance.
• Supporting monthly accounts, reconciliations and financial reporting.
• Building effective working relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams to support strong commercial outcomes.

What skills and experience are we looking for?

• Strong numerical skills, commercial awareness and attention to detail.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, with the ability to interpret construction drawings and project information.
• Excellent organisation, communication and relationship-building skills.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and managing responsibilities.
• A relevant Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or construction-related qualification is desirable but not essential.
• Experience in construction, logistics, infrastructure, facilities management or security, with knowledge of procurement, valuations, cost reporting and systems such as COINS or TrackTik, would be beneficial.
