Delivering compliance and safety on projects that matter.
Laing O'Rourke is recruiting a Building Regulations Principal Contractor – Compliance Coordinator to support two technically complex and high-profile projects: the Oxford Pandemics facility and a state-of-the-art Data Centre in Slough. These schemes bring unique regulatory and technical challenges – and this role is critical in ensuring safety, compliance, and right-first-time delivery.
This is a national role, requiring site presence 4 days a week depending on workload and project requirements.
What you'll be doing
-
Support project teams in fulfilling their duties as Building Regulations Principal Contractor (BRPC) under Part 2A of the Building Regulations 2010 (as amended).
-
Ensure all building work complies with statutory requirements during construction, only engaging competent organisations and individuals.
-
Act as the liaison between key dutyholders – Client, Principal Designer, contractors, and designers – to maintain cooperation and accountability.
-
Manage systems for assessing and recording competence of contractors, reviewing throughout the lifecycle of the projects.
-
Conduct risk-based inspections of works, documenting findings and ensuring any compliance issues are closed out proactively.
-
Provide an independent assurance layer between site quality control and building control.
-
Participate in joint inspections with Registered Building Inspectors / Control Approvers, focusing on high-risk areas such as fire safety, structural integrity, and complex systems.
-
Maintain auditable records of competence checks, inspections, and communications to demonstrate compliance at completion.
-
Encourage proactive compliance behaviours and support continuous improvement in regulatory practice.
-
Share insights and suggestions with the Central Building Safety Team, contributing to innovation and efficiency.
What we're looking for
-
Degree in Building Surveying, Building Control, Architecture, Structural/Fire Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (desirable).
-
Chartered (or working towards) membership with RIBA, CABE, RICS, or equivalent.
-
At least 10 years' experience in the built environment, ideally including major projects.
-
Strong background in on-site inspections and compliance documentation.
-
Excellent communicator, able to guide teams through complex regulatory frameworks.
-
Collaborative approach, building strong relationships with clients, contractors, and consultants.
-
Proven ability in technical assurance, quality, and risk management in complex environments.
-
Organised, resilient, and able to deliver in a fast-paced setting.
