Assistant Estimator

Location: London or Ipswich (Hybrid working)

Project: Sizewell C – Civil Works Alliance

Reporting to: Lead Estimator

The Opportunity

This is a chance to join one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes – Sizewell C – a once-in-a-generation development set to provide clean energy to over 6 million homes for the next 60 years.

Working within the Civil Works Alliance (a partnership between Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O'Rourke), you will be part of a high-performing estimating team supporting the delivery of a complex, high-value infrastructure programme.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your estimating capability, working alongside experienced professionals and gaining exposure to major project pricing and commercial decision-making.

The role can be based in London or aligned to the Ipswich project office, with hybrid working in place and flexibility for candidates across the UK. Travel and mobility support is provided where required.

The Role

As Assistant Estimator, you will support the development of estimates across a range of work packages, contributing to the preparation of accurate and robust cost information.

You will:

• Support the preparation of cost estimates in line with project requirements
• Review drawings and specifications to assist with pricing development
• Contribute to first principles estimating for labour, plant and materials
• Assist with tendering activities and commercial submissions
• Work closely with planning, procurement and delivery teams
• Help identify risks, opportunities and key assumptions within estimates
• Support the development of bills of quantities and pricing documentation
• Assist in tracking changes to estimates as project information evolves
• Engage with stakeholders to support the estimating process

What We're Looking For?

• Some experience in estimating, commercial or operational roles within construction or infrastructure
• Strong interest in developing a career in estimating
• Good analytical and numerical skills
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
• Proficient in Excel or similar tools
• Willingness to learn and develop within a project environment

Desirable:

• Experience with estimating tools such as Candy or CostX
• Working towards a relevant qualification or chartership (RICS, ICE, CIOB or similar)
