Job Title: Trainee Survey Equipment Technician
Location: St Neots
Permanent - Full Time

Role Overview:

We are seeking a motivated Trainee Survey Equipment Technician to join our Survey Workshop team. This role is designed for someone looking to develop their technical skills while undertaking training in the repair, servicing, and calibration of survey equipment.

Working within a busy workshop environment, you will learn how to maintain and service a range of surveying instruments while ensuring all work meets customer requirements and turnaround deadlines. You will also assist with general workshop duties and maintain accurate service records using our internal systems.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is technically minded, detail-oriented, and eager to learn within a specialist field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend product-specific training to develop knowledge of survey equipment and servicing procedures.
  • Assist with the repair and calibration of survey equipment under supervision.
  • Maintain accurate servicing and asset records using internal workshop software (training provided).
  • Work efficiently and independently where appropriate, with minimal supervision.
  • Meet workshop turnaround deadlines while ensuring high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Support general workshop duties, including stock checks, equipment handling, and courier dispatch/receipts.
  • Interact professionally with customers regarding equipment entering or leaving the workshop.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the department.

Key Accountabilities

  • Maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring service work meets operational and customer requirements.
  • Identify and resolve technical or practical issues relating to survey equipment.
  • Keep all equipment records and service documentation up to date in the internal system.
  • Produce clear and accurate service reports following equipment repairs or calibration.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • GCSE Maths and English (Pass or Grade C/4 or above)
  • Basic IT skills and familiarity with standard computer software

Preferred

  • Previous exposure to surveying or geospatial equipment
  • Experience with Leica Geosystems equipment or similar technologies
  • Supplier training from Leica or other surveying equipment manufacturers

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong attention to detail and precision, essential when working with surveying instruments.
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose technical issues.
  • Competence with computer systems and technical software (e.g., internal workshop systems such as SERIS – training provided).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills when dealing with colleagues and customers.
  • Ability to organise tasks and meet tight turnaround times.
