We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Senior Electrical Engineer to join our project team at the National Grid Wimbledon Substation. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will provide crucial electrical engineering expertise and support across all stages of the project, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of the electrical aspects of the works. You will be a key point of contact for electrical design queries and will play a vital role in the coordination with design houses and site teams.

We are looking for an engineer whose key responsibilities will be:

  • Technical Expertise - providing in-depth electrical engineering knowledge and guidance on all aspects of the project, including HV plant, protection and control systems, and HV cables.
  • Design Liaison and Review
  • Quality Assurance 
  • Testing and Commissioning 
  • Risk Management

You will provide technical support to the Project Manager on all electrical engineering matters, and to the site-based construction teams, resolving electrical engineering issues and ensuring adherence to design requirements.  You will assist in the management of electrical design changes, ensuring proper documentation and approval processes are followed. You will be a skilled communicator, liaising effectively with National Grid representatives and other stakeholders on electrical engineering matters. You will also be required to ensure that work complies with CDM regulations and to assist in the preparation of technical reports and progress updates related to electrical works. 

We're looking for a candidate with the following skills and experience:

  • Degree Qualified in Electrical Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer Status (or working towards it) with a recognized professional institution.
  • Significant experience (5+ years) as an Electrical Engineer, with a strong focus on high-voltage power transmission and distribution systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of HV plant, protection and control systems, and HV cables.
  • Proven experience working with National Grid standards, specifications, and procedures.
  • Experience in the review and approval of electrical designs and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of electrical installation practices and testing procedures.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

You must have a strong commitment to safety and quality as well as the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Experience of working on substation projects would be advantageous as well as knowledge of earthing and bonding requirements for HV installations.
