Role Overview

Laing O'Rourke is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Authorised Person (SAP) to take a leading role in ensuring the safe operation, control, and maintenance of electrical systems across major construction and infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for authorising and supervising electrical work, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, and upholding the highest standards of health, safety, and operational excellence in line with Laing O'Rourke policies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Senior Authorised Person for electrical systems (LV/HV), ensuring safe isolation, switching, and energisation of equipment
  • Issue and manage permits-to-work, switching schedules, and safety documentation
  • Ensure compliance with Electricity at Work Regulations and relevant British Standards (e.g. BS 7671)
  • Oversee and coordinate electrical activities on site, including contractors and subcontractors
  • Provide technical guidance and supervision to Authorised Persons, Competent Persons, and apprentices
  • Carry out risk assessments, method statements, and safety audits
  • Lead investigations into electrical incidents and implement corrective actions
  • Liaise with project teams, operations, and external stakeholders (e.g. DNOs, ICPs)
  • Support commissioning, testing, and handover of electrical systems
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical operations, inspections, and certifications

Health & Safety

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture across all activities
  • Ensure strict adherence to Laing O'Rourke's ZERO Harm principles
  • Act as a role model for safe systems of work and behavioural safety

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as an Authorised Person / Senior Authorised Person (HV/LV)
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical distribution systems
  • Experience within construction, infrastructure, or engineering environments
  • In-depth understanding of electrical safety rules and permit systems
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
