Design Manager – Brighton 3Ts Hospital Redevelopment
📍 Brighton | Site-Based | Be part of a once-in-a-generation healthcare transformation
Join Laing O'Rourke in delivering one of the UK's most ambitious hospital redevelopment programmes—Brighton 3Ts. This multi-phase, state-of-the-art healthcare project is redefining patient care and clinical environments for the future. We are looking for a Design Manager to play a central role in this landmark project.
Why This Project?
This is more than just construction. You'll be shaping healthcare spaces that will serve the people of Brighton and Sussex for decades to come—improving patient experience, supporting world-class clinical care, and creating a better working environment for NHS staff.
About the Role
As Design Manager, you will lead the design process on-site, ensuring the highest standards in technical delivery, buildability, and compliance. You'll engage directly with designers, consultants, supply chain partners, and hospital stakeholders—helping to drive certainty in programme, cost, and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the development and coordination of design information from inception to handover
- Ensure design outputs align with programme milestones, construction sequencing, and MMC methodologies
- Lead design reviews, manage technical queries, and proactively resolve design challenges
- Support the appointment and management of designers, monitoring scope and performance
- Foster a collaborative, solutions-focused culture within the project team and wider stakeholder network
What You'll Bring:
- Degree-qualified in architecture, engineering (civil, structural, MEP), or a related field
- Solid design management experience on major healthcare, infrastructure, or complex building projects
- Proactive problem-solving skills and ability to influence positive outcomes
- Understanding of DfMA and digital delivery is a plus
- Collaborative approach and a drive to deliver high-quality, people-first spaces
Why Laing O'Rourke?
- Play a key role on a flagship healthcare project with long-term societal value
- Join an industry leader in digital engineering, MMC, and sustainable construction
- Be part of a supportive technical community with clear pathways for progression and professional growth
- Work within a business that puts innovation, people, and purpose at the heart of what we do
Our Commitment to Inclusion
We're building teams that reflect the communities we serve. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and encourage candidates to apply even if they don't meet every single point listed. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
