Deputy Design Manager – Architectural Bias - Interim role - 6 months+

Are you ready to make a real impact on a flagship healthcare project that will improve lives for generations?

At Laing O'Rourke, we're delivering transformation in healthcare infrastructure – and we're looking for an ambitious Deputy Design Manager from an architectural or architectural technician background to join our team at Calderdale Royal Hospital. This is a unique opportunity to support the delivery of a vital public facility while developing your design leadership skills.

The Role

As Deputy Design Manager, you'll work closely with our experienced Design and Delivery teams to manage and coordinate architectural design information. You'll ensure everything aligns with our rigorous programme, buildability standards, and technical expectations – while always keeping the patient experience in mind.

You will:

  • Support the development, review, and coordination of design packages

  • Engage with architects, consultants, and contractors to manage design outputs

  • Help ensure that solutions are compliant, buildable, and aligned with client requirements

  • Support technical reviews, design meetings, and quality assurance activities

  • Gain experience in leading on statutory compliance, design change control, and handover documentation

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone who:

  • Comes from an architectural or architectural technician background - circa 5 years experience

  • Has experience working with design consultant teams (e.g., healthcare, education, or public sector schemes)

  • Understands how to review, manage, and coordinate multidisciplinary design packages

  • Can support the team in developing optimised, sustainable, and compliant design solutions

  • Has a desire to grow into a senior design leadership role

Why Join Us?

At Laing O'Rourke, we're redefining what's possible in design and construction. You'll be joining a supportive, innovative, and high-performing team at a pivotal point in this major healthcare scheme. You'll have access to:

  • A structured development pathway in our Technical Function

  • Cutting-edge digital tools and DfMA methodologies

  • Opportunities to influence the future of patient-focused healthcare infrastructure

Inclusion Matters

We believe diverse teams deliver the best outcomes. Laing O'Rourke is committed to creating an inclusive workplace – where everyone can thrive, grow, and contribute. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and experiences, particularly those underrepresented in construction and engineering.
