Role Purpose

We are seeking a Building Regulations Principal Designer (BRPD) Technical Lead to serve as the Designated Individual (DI) for the Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital project, ensuring full compliance with Part 2A of the Building Regulations 2010 (as amended).

This role is pivotal to planning, managing, and monitoring design work, overseeing higher-risk building safety requirements, and ensuring all legal and regulatory duties are met with excellence.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and monitor project design work to ensure compliance with all Building Regulations requirements.

  • Oversee and coordinate any services provided by the Building Regulations Principal Designer Advisor (BRPDA).

  • Ensure all designers are competent and engaged in their duties.

  • Facilitate cooperation across project teams and stakeholders to meet regulatory obligations.

  • Provide timely and accurate building information to design teams and contractors.

  • Identify and manage building safety risks throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Manage higher-risk building work and maintain regular communication and reviews.

  • Support the development and implementation of the Building Safety Management System, including processes, guidance, and templates.

  • Collaborate with other principal duty holders to share best practices and knowledge.

  • Embed competence requirements relating to the Building Safety Act within project deliverables.

  • Assist in the development and delivery of training related to building regulations and safety.

  • Monitor regulatory changes and communicate their implications to the business.

  • Provide design teams with guidance to ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations and relevant guidance.


What We're Looking For

  • Around 10 years' experience managing design and construction projects.

  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, capable of guiding diverse teams through complex regulations.

  • Strong collaborative mindset with proven ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Business acumen with a customer-focused approach to identifying opportunities and value.

  • Expertise in technical and quality risk management.

  • Ability to prioritise and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Chartered or working towards chartered status with RIBA, CABE, RICS, or equivalent professional body.
