We're looking for a passionate and pragmatic Senior Sustainability Advisor to help drive sustainability across Europe's most advanced concrete manufacturing facility. This is a hands-on, site-based role, reporting to a roaming Sustainability Lead, and is key to delivering our environmental compliance, sustainability goals, and social value strategy.

Based at CEMC in Worksop, you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact. From helping shape how we build more sustainably, to leading community initiatives and cutting carbon, your work will span across design, production and operations. You'll also have the freedom to take ownership, grow your skills, and bring sustainability to life across the facility.

Location: Explore Manufacturing – Centre of Excellence for Modern Construction (CEMC), Worksop, Nottinghamshire

About Explore Manufacturing

Explore Manufacturing is Laing O'Rourke's advanced off-site manufacturing business, specialising in Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) solutions. Sustainability is central to everything we do — and our ambition is clear: to become a net zero business before 2050.

We're already making great progress through innovative projects like Decarbonising Manufactured Concrete, co-funded by the UK's Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF). Now, we're looking for someone like you to help take it even further.

Key Responsibilities

  • Environmental & Energy Management:
Support the implementation and continual improvement of Laing O'Rourke's Environmental and Energy Management Systems in line with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standards.
  • Environmental Compliance:
Lead daily environmental compliance activities to ensure full alignment with legal and regulatory obligations. Support both internal and external reporting requirements, including submissions to the Environment Agency, Bassetlaw Council, MPA British Precast, and the Building Research Establishment (BRE).
  • Environmental Planning & Auditing:
Develop, maintain, and audit the site's Environmental Management Plan and Waste Strategy to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
  • Data Management & Analysis:
Collect, validate, and analyse sustainability data using platforms such as Intelex, Power BI, and Thrive. Generate insights to inform strategy and track performance.
  • Performance Reporting:
Monitor and report on key sustainability metrics, including decarbonisation progress and energy performance indicators.
  • Social Value Leadership:
Champion social value initiatives by coordinating local outreach efforts—such as school engagement, volunteering activities, and charity events. Own the development and implementation of a comprehensive site-wide Social Value Plan, ensuring progress is tracked and communicated across departments.
  • Audit & Review Participation:
Support internal and external audits and represent sustainability performance during management reviews.
  • Cultural Integration:
Drive sustainability awareness and engagement across the site through briefings, training sessions, and toolbox talks.

About You

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation and compliance (especially ISO 14001 & ISO 50001)
  • Hands-on experience with environmental data tracking, audits, and regulatory reporting
  • Confident communicator who's comfortable engaging everyone from site teams to senior leaders
  • Positive, proactive mindset and a genuine passion for sustainability

Desirable:

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in sustainability, environmental science, or a related field
  • Experience delivering community engagement or social value programmes
  • Familiarity with Intelex, PowerBI, or Thrive systems

This is more than a compliance role — it's your chance to shape how a cutting-edge facility tackles climate challenges, adds value to local communities, and leads from the front on sustainability. You'll be part of a well-connected, supportive team, with the opportunity to grow and influence across one of the most innovative sites in the industry.
