We are seeking a highly skilled MEICA Mechanical Technical Manager, with expertise in pipework movement/expansion, acoustics, and heat pump technology, to join our central MEICA technical team. In this role, you will oversee the design development, and implementation of mechanical systems on our projects across the UK, ensuring optimal performance, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards. We have projects covering our key sectors, including, Data Centres, Defence, Infrastructure, Power & Nuclear, Healthcare, Science & Research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review consultant designs and develop pipework expansion/structural movement designs, taking into consideration structural movement, thermal expansion, bracketry and ancillary selection.
  • Advise on movement/expansion devices ensuring optimum performance and the most cost effective solution.
  • Provide specialist advice in acoustics, including noise and vibration on HVAC/hydraulic systems, to enhance system performance and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Provide specialist advice in the selection of acoustic ancillary and components to overcome noise and vibration issues on HVAC/hydraulic sytems.
  • Review consultant and specialist subcontractor designs of Ground Source and Air Source heat pump systems. Ensuring optimum efficiency and commissionability can be achieved.
  • Conduct detailed stress analysis, thermal expansion calculations, and material selection for pipework systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical, civil, and process engineers, to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, building regulations, and environmental considerations.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to provide expert technical guidance and innovative solutions.

 

Requirements

  • Degree/Higher National Qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (MEng/BEng).
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards it (preferred).
  • Extensive experience in MEICA engineering, specifically in pipework expansion, acoustics, and heat pumps.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, material properties, and fluid dynamics.
  • Proficiency in calculating expansion/movement.
  • A good understanding of sound power levels and associated acoustic calculations/terminology
  • Familiarity with industry standards (BS, EN, ASME, CIBSE, etc.).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with clients and stakeholders effectively.
