Are you an experienced Design Manager from a Civils or Geotechnical background, passionate about delivering technically excellent and buildable design solutions? Laing O'Rourke invites you to be part of a critical national programme, shaping high-quality living accommodation for service personnel.

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for a Design Manager to join our integrated delivery team on the Ministry of Defence Single Living Accommodation Framework. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the design process on a high-profile, multi-site programme that prioritises modern construction methods, sustainable delivery, and technical excellence.

You will play a pivotal role in managing the design lifecycle, working closely with consultant teams, internal design leads, and construction partners to ensure quality, compliance, and efficiency from concept through to handover.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and coordinate civil and geotechnical design activities across multiple MoD sites.

• Manage the production, review, and approval of design information aligned with client specifications and buildability requirements.

• Collaborate closely with specialist design consultants and internal engineering teams.

• Ensure statutory and contractual compliance, alongside Laing O'Rourke's industry-leading governance processes.

• Drive design optimisation focused on DfMA (Design for Manufacture & Assembly), modern construction methods, and sustainable solutions.

• Support construction and handover phases, providing technical leadership throughout.

What You'll Bring

• Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Chartered status or working towards (ICE, IStructE or similar).

• Strong background in delivering civils and geotechnical packages in major infrastructure or accommodation projects.

• Previous experience working with design consultants and multidisciplinary teams.

• Passion for driving innovative, buildable, and sustainable design outcomes.

• Ability to work within a fast-paced framework environment, balancing multiple stakeholder needs.
