Are you an experienced mechanical or electrical engineer with a solid understanding of DfMA principles? Or a DfMA specialist looking for the next step up? This could be your perfect opportunity.

We're looking for a Senior DfMA Engineer to lead the integration and delivery of offsite MEP (building services) solutions across major projects. This is a technically focused role, combining strategic input, design interrogation, manufacturing coordination, and site delivery planning. This role would be covering our projects across the UK and we have multiple office locations in the North West, Midlands, Dartford, Nottinghamshire, Cambridgeshire and Leeds.

Whether your background is technical design or hands-on delivery, if you have a strong understanding of how to drive value, efficiency and performance using DfMA, we want to hear from you.

At Laing O'Rourke and Crown House Technologies, we're pioneering the use of DfMA, digital engineering, and modern methods of construction across the UK's most complex infrastructure and building projects. You'll be part of a team that's changing the way buildings are designed and delivered – with full support, continuous learning and a clear pathway for career progression.

The Opportunity

As a Senior DfMA Engineer, you will:

  • Lead the integration and deployment of MEP DfMA solutions from concept through to subcontractor delivery.
  • Produce and own the project DfMA strategy aligned with client and delivery requirements.
  • Interrogate consultant designs and implement DfMA solutions that are fully compliant, buildable, and optimised for manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with design teams to ensure DfMA is embedded from early design phases, including RIBA stages 2–4.
  • Work closely with our offsite Manufacturing Facility — reviewing and approving manufacturing drawings, supporting efficient information flow, and applying manufacturing principles to product design.
  • Provide input into DfMA Cost Plans and work-winning strategies, adding real-world delivery insight into our bids and early engagement work.
  • Participate in and manage RDCs (Requests for Design Change) — reviewing and marking up drawings with technical changes, including rationale and supporting documentation.
  • Contribute to the review of Digital Engineering models for construction planning, logistics, and sequencing (e.g. animations, temporary works planning).
  • Support site delivery teams by helping shape logistics plans, buildability reviews and installation strategies for DfMA components.
  • Supervise and mentor junior DfMA Engineers (typically 2–4), ensuring high standards of technical delivery and continuous learning across the team.

 What You'll Need

  • Background in MEP project delivery with exposure to offsite techniques.
  • 5+ years of relevant technical or practical experience in an engineering or project delivery environment.
  • Strong understanding of building services systems.
  • Familiarity with DfMA methodologies and modern construction materials.
  • Ability to review and influence design for prefabrication opportunities.
  • Understanding of MPPS (multi-product platform systems), supply chain knowledge, and value engineering principles.
  • Experience with design change control, CDM regulations, and multidisciplinary design coordination.

If you've got a background in building services, there may be areas where your experience is transferable and for the rest, we can provide training. So why not apply and have a chat with us?
