Introduction to Health, Safety and Environment

Laing O’Rourke wants every staff member to get home safely, every day. 

The Health, Safety and Environment function ensures that all project sites, offices and staff know how to go work safely, ensuring a culture where anyone on a project site can raise a safety alert and looking after the health and wellbeing of all staff. 

Working in Health and Safety, you will have a key role ensuring that the latest thinking in safety culture is communicated effectively to project leaders and supervisors to keep their people safe. 

In 2014, Laing O’Rourke conducted a Group-wide safety culture survey and overwhelmingly the results were positive with 92 per cent of our staff saying the purpose and objectives of Mission Zero were clear, with 91 per cent saying they know how they contribute to Mission Zero. 

The function also encompasses our Environment team. We recognise that we have a duty to minimise the negative environmental impacts of our operations. Current industry practices are carbon-intensive and we ensure that we are measuring our carbon impact as well as working with colleagues from across the business to find more sustainable products and methods that reduce our impact on the environment.
