Civil Engineering

Introduction to civil engineering

Laing O’Rourke builds some of the most exhilarating and inspiring engineering projects within the industry on a global scale. As a civil engineer you will be part of a project team charged with ensuring that the design and specifications meet the client’s requirements, and that these high standards are implemented correctly during the construction of the project. You will have direct responsibility for the management and delivery of a section of the project and as you gain experience, the size and complexity of the section will naturally increase.

If you are starting out in your career as a civil engineer, you will be overcoming the challenges that our complex projects encounter on a daily basis. This time allows you to experience the dynamic site environment learning the methods and techniques of how we construct our projects and will enable you to call upon this experience throughout the rest of your career.

Our best civil engineering graduates progress to senior positions within the business such as Engineering Leader or Project Director. Being part of the project team provides the camaraderie and support to enable us to be part of how we shape our infrastructure for the future.

Laing O’Rourke also expects that you will become a Chartered Civil Engineer and provides generous support to assist you in achieving this.  You will be enrolled on an Institution of Civil Engineers accredited training scheme complete with a dedicated Supervising Civil Engineer (SCE) to guide you through the process.
