Give us a brief overview of your day to day responsibilities.
I set out lines and points ensuring that the carpenters, groundworkers and steel fixers are able to carry out their jobs efficiently and effectively.
What are your key achievements/highlights to date?
I helped the team complete the capping beam in the social accommodation building area. This had to be done to a tight schedule as it was a key milestone that needed to be completed before Christmas in order to excavate the basement of the building.
What attracted you to the industry?
I come from a background where my family have worked in construction and it’s always just been something I’ve wanted to do. I like the idea of being able to see what you have done come to light and physically being seen and used in society.
What drew you to apply for your role at LOR?
I did a lot of research into many different construction companies and Laing O’Rourke pushing towards a sustainable future was a key reason to me applying.
Do you have any hints and tips for the recruitment process?
Everyone is in the same boat. Make sure to involve yourself in the assessment day, but also listen and let everyone have their say. Be confident in what you say and back up points you make.
What advice would you give to students looking for a professional apprentice role?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions everyone is human and knows where you are starting from. If you like the best of both worlds being in office as well as on site it is extremely good way of getting into construction.
